The Howard Cooke Primary School in St James has been plunged into mourning, following the passing of Vice Principal, Veronica Headley Jennings, this morning. the school’s Principal, Dave Scott, said Mrs. Headley Jennings was a brilliant educator, who has left a mark on all who interacted with her.

Mr Scott noted that Mrs Headley Jennings was scheduled to assume the role as Acting Principal come September when the new school year begins.

She was to serve for eight months, while Mr Scott went on leave for the period.

A Guyanese woman died yesterday aboard a Caribbean Airlines (CAL) flight on which she and her family were returning home to New York.

Her relatives are still in shock as she had no complications prior to boarding.

A relative of the woman stated that Joan Wilson nee Primo, popularly known as Miss Joan, "collapsed and was unresponsive" midair, shortly after using the restroom on the CAL flight.

After the death, the plane was diverted to Piarco Airport in Trinidad and Tobago.

The relative said that the woman's son, grandson, and two other relatives were on the flight.

Three children were found dead at a California home Sunday, and the children’s mother has been taken into custody for questioning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Los Angeles police officers responded to the home in West Hills, California, around 7:40 a.m. for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Paramedics arrived, and the three children were all declared dead.

The children’s mother was detained and questioned by officers at the scene, according to LAPD.

LAPD homicide detectives are investigating the death of these three children. No further details are available at this time, police said.

AFlorida truck driver was arrested after he allegedly doused a 1-year-old in "flammable liquid" and tried to light the child on fire at a gas station in Tyre, New York.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the Seneca County Sheriff's Office responded to a Love's Truck Stop after a report of fires inside the building. Upon arriving at the scene, police say they "located two suspects that allegedly started and attempted to start the fires," and the two – one of whom has since been identified as Jamie Avery Jr. – were immediately detained.

"Upon further investigation, sheriff's deputies found that the two were in the company of a 1-year-old child that was covered in flammable liquid," said Sheriff Timothy Luce, adding that the child was rushed to Geneva General Hospital. A second child, 4 years old, was located, injured and abandoned, in the cab of a tractor-trailer in relation to the incident. Sheriff's deputies forced entry into the cab and removed the child," said police, who later added they believe the child was in Avery's semi-truck. Both children have been medically treated and are expected to make full recoveries, and are also in the custody of Seneca County Human Services. Police say they believe there is a "parental relationship" and the children are related, but they have not fully determined that yet.

"Circumstances surrounding the 4-year-old are still under investigation," police said during the news conference.

Avery, 28, of West Palm Beach, Florida, was charged with attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder in the second degree, arson in the second degree, attempted arson in the second degree, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

It is anticipated that the second suspect will be charged in the near future, and both may face additional charges as the investigation continues, according to police.

The child was immediately transported to Geneva General Hospital by North Seneca Ambulance and was later airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital by LifeNet with suspected head injuries

"It is alleged that the two suspects poured a flammable liquid on the 1-year-old child and attempted to light the child on fire inside the building," police said. "Luckily, the two were unsuccessful."

A 44-year-old mother from North Carolina died on Tuesday after she became stuck inside an industrial food mixer at work.

Virginia López Severiano, an employee at Azteca Market in Selma, became trapped inside an industrial machine on Tuesday morning, according to WTVD. Emergency personnel who responded to the scene freed López Severiano and airlifted her to Duke University Hospital.While doctors initially planned an operation to save López Severiano's arm, she died from her injuries later that night, WRAL reported. López Severiano had reportedly been cleaning the machine, used to make bread, at the time of the incident
