New Episode! ""The Reason I Say I Am 2 and Out." Berihan Abbas Donald - How to appease sibling arguments; making room for work AND kids; and why being one-of-3 means she's only having 2."

*TRIGGER WARNING* This episode contains a few memories of depression. Nothing too heavy, but I want to let you know first. This took me back to those early days after our eldest, Alfie, was born and having to go to the GP wit...

"What is your love language?" It's a good question from Clio Wood from AndBreathe Wellbeing to launch the very first episode of Dad Asks Mums.

To be honest, I had no idea what my love language was. English with a slight northern lilt at times, perhaps? It turns out, my love language is bringing chocolate home quite often.

By the end of this episode I discovered more about peri-menopause than I'd ever known previously. (And I'd only heard of it a few months previously.) But that's the point of the podcast = allyship. Dad Allyship to better understand parenting from other points of view.

Dad Asks Mums: Because you don't know what you don't know. And then you find out and say, "Oh, really? Well that's obvious now you say it...)

What is my love language? If it's what I think it is, then my love language is filled heavily with puns and dance moves that I think are like one of thos…

World Book Day. It’s not something I’m a huge fan of. Not because of the last minute panic when you remember/are told that, “Tomorrow I have to go as/take in XYZ.”

I don’t like the fact that for one day, on a day to supposedly celebrate children’s books and children’s love of books… it does exactly the opposite.

It puts pressure on parents financially and even creatively. No parent wants their child to feel any less than the others in their class. That’s the opposite of what children’s books are meant to do.

Children’s books unify parents and children, and children together.

Children’s books are about escaping into your own imagination and feeling joy.

I’ve heard the excitement in a park when my son has overheard someone being The Gruffalo. Two strangers from any backgrounds can be equals when they’re playing The Gruffalo in the park. (Unless they’re the squirrels. Very much a bit part, the squirrels.)

Everyday should be a day to celebrate books. Not just one day where you’re told HOW to celebrate books.

I feel passionately about this, although I’m not usually this vocal about it. That’s down to the fact I was up until 2am, having found out my son wanted to take a donkey puppet to school, and so I had to buy some things to make a donkey puppet 5 minutes before the show ended, then try to learn to sew into the early hours.

Celebrate children’s books however you like, your own way, the way your child wants to, any day of the year.

It’s a passion; not a competition.

The End.

Hello. Welcome to the Dad Asks Mums podcast. I'm Al and I am a Dad of 2 (Alfie & Sienna) and a fiance of 1 (Kerri). I am also a bit of a daydreamer and someone who used to present radio, but now makes podcasts.

Dad Asks Mums is a podcast, in which I talk to a different Mum in each episode to find out what IS good parenting and partner practice; and what isn't. It's a place where I pick up tips about the things I want to be better at; or even, maybe need to be.

Essentially, Dad Asks Mums is a podcast where I talk to Mums and, via Daddy's Disc of Dilemma, I get answers to the questions Kerri and I are facing as parents; then I can then share that knowledge with her in the hope that she actually thinks it's me that's dead clever, and I'll probably get a great big kiss. Unless the kids are in the room. -
