This 1948 classic, American Sporting Dogs was edited and designed by Eugene V. Connett, and is a 500 plus page book on American sporting dogs which includes the pointing, retrieving, flushing and hound breeds.

28 chapters authored by outstanding breed authorities of their time. They were asked "to write what he would liked to have read in his early days as the owner, trainer, or handler of a sporting dog."

We’ve probably mentioned books by one our favorite authors, Gene Hill more than once. A Gun Dog Library is not complete until it contains a complete set of his books. Gun dogs are mentioned often throughout them all, but no none more than his classic Tears & Laughter - A Couple Of Dozen Dog Stories.

If you're a fan of Gordon MacQuarrie, then you need to obtain a copy of these selected columns from the Milwaukee Journal from 1936-1956. According to Everson, "You'll find pretty much everything he wrote about his dogs, and a bit of his guns here."

Legendary author, artist, and breeder of Old Hemlock English Setters, George Bird Evans wrote this classic bird dog training book in 1975.

From the dust jacket flap: “Troubles with Bird Dogs is the rich harvest of a gunning lifetime. It is based on case histories of dogs the author has gunned over, loved and understood, and of dogs of friends who brought their problems to him.”

Evans, a prolific writer, penned at least 19 books over his lifetime. No gun dog library should be without at least a handful of his excellent books.

This classic, practical book on bird dog training covers all pointing and flushing breeds and also offers sensible approaches to buying a dog, bringing up a pup, yard and field training, and equipment. This is a book that no serious owner or trainer of a bird dog will want to miss and would be a nice addition to anyone's gun dog library!
