About-
Around this time last year, Marc Ertel joined the stage with the PITP brethren James Bernard, zakè, and From Overseas for a live performance at the Gothic Chapel in Indianapolis, US which was eventually released as a limited vinyl LP. Since then, Ertel has been quietly working on new solo arrangements along with new compositions that will be part of an imminent Dawn Chorus and the Infallible Sea record.

Just a few months after the Gothic Chapel performance, Ertel was invited to play a live set at Black Circle. He performed all new material and this album showcases over 24 minutes of this new material. Delicately mixed and mastered by James Bernard at Ambient Mountain House, we are honored to share this work of art with you.

“Umbilical was made remotely between Japan and Brazil, which are on opposite sides of the Earth. Even though there is a very long distance, our collaboration became very intimate and close; we named the album “Umbilical” to reflect this connection. Clouds Without Water emerged from the chance meeting of two ambient experimentalists who played at an electronic music festival as solo artists and discovered a musical affinity. They decided to collaborate long distance during the loneliest months of the pandemic lockdowns, sending tracks to each other without plans or discussion, only wordless questions buried in the music.

These are the answers they fashioned.

Clouds Without Water bridges the gap between granularity and haze, grit and smoothness, sequence and randomness, electricity and organicity.

Kimono Kaleidoscope

Circular is the ambient duo Bjarte Andreassen and Jostein Dahl Gielsvik (aka Pjusk) from Norway.

Their debut album appeared in the mid 90’s on Origo, the same label as fellow Norwegian artist, Biosphere's early releases. Being among the first artists who pioneered the sound that became known as arctic ambient, Circular has continued to develop and explore wider sound palettes. Still influenced by the stark beauty of open nature, ‘Kimono Kaleidoscope’ also infuses warmth and cinematic traits.
