CALLING ALL ALBERTA BASED FASHION DESIGNERS FOR UPCOMING SPRING RUNWAY SHOW

Secret Shop & FOREIGNERZ are coming together in 2023 spring to present a brand new runway show in Calgary, showcasing the work of designers from the Alberta underground who are pushing the culture forward through their work in fashion. We are looking for designers of varying levels who are bold, uncompromising and breaking new ground with their approach to fashion, style and the world of contemporary aesthetics.

If you are interested in showcasing your work, please send an email to [email protected] with examples of your work and some information about yourself, your experience in fashion and your interest in being in a runway show. Our curatorial team is hoping to look at the expanse of new and emerging talent transforming Alberta and are excited to put together a fantastic runway show. Please spread the word far and wide to your networks! Our application deadline is March 13th, 2023.

The creative endeavors of artists contribute to the reshaping of the world around them. Even though artists play an important role in society, they are also required to market and brand themselves to further their careers and art. In this workshop, FOREIGNERZ will share their insight on how to strategically build a framework to help artists establish their own personal brand and position their artistic practice as a business. FOREIGNERZ will look at the guiding principles of aesthetics, brand strategy and the complicated nature of marketing “the self” in 2023.

Do you have a passion for community building? Do you value a healthy and vibrant arts community? Do you want to learn how community building affects you as an artist or arts patron? This workshop will showcase some of the community builders at the forefront of change in our arts community. Learn about the different stakeholders in community building, the current needs of artists, and what tangible actions can strengthen the arts community. Stick around for the panel discussion, followed by a Q&A. The panel features arts professionals from Foreignerz, Ethnik Fest, Elephant Artists Relief, Alcove Centre for the Arts, One Big Jam, and Madhuban Performing Arts.

Thank you to everyone who made this project happen and to all of you who came to our premiere at BUMP Cinematheque. A full house! What an honour!

Making a documentary about someone's life and practise is a meditative experience. It takes you deep into their world and sometimes you emerge from the experience full of life, with a strong connection to your subject. IN THIS MOMENT solidified how strongly we feel about these experiences as storytellers, and our time with and the many others this film touched bolsters our vision to make art about art, and create illusory and powerful films about people.

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT !!!! Thank you for having us. We at FOREIGNERZ are artists telling the stories we believe need to be seen. We see ourselves as cultural architects in a city and country with an appetite for new narratives, bold vision and uncompromising artistry. We are proud tonight to premiere IN THIS MOMENT for the first ever BUMP Cinematheque.

IN THIS MOMENT follows the work and world of at an important juncture in his life. Filmed during the evolution of his massive mural for the 2022 BUMP festival, we looked at the people who this mural was based on and his daughter odette, and the many others Alex's work and philosophy has touched along the way. This film is a directorial debut for FOREIGNERZ co-founder and producer with cinematography and editing from the incredible FOREIGNERZ powerhouse

Join us and this Friday night at for the official FRNRZ Short Films night at 9 PM. Our curated selection, ‘SPIRITS ON FIRE’ brings films from around the world to Calgary and is an exciting mix of vastly different stories.

As we turn towards a peculiar future, the noise from the global underground takes us towards the absurd and the anxious. In all these films we looked at portraits of humans in a state of flux - the ones who lean into the ludicrous, the human spirit on fire, the urgency of survival and need for transformation.
