Throwback to us starting internship one year ago. It has been a good year despite the steep learning curve. We remember feeling inadequate and almost fraudulent for introducing ourselves as doctors. Through the many challenges we faced, we have improved our clinical, administrative and communication skills. However the biggest realisation we’ve had is that, we do not need to know everything. Medicine is a learning process regardless of where we are in our careers (junior and senior doctors alike). We became more comfortable with our uncertainties and asking for help when needed.
To the new interns,
Although you will face many hurdles this year, you will never be alone. Make sure to look after your mental health and check in on your peers periodically. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Let’s continue to learn together!
