Amanat party in Kazakh parliament supports introduction of seven-year presidential term

NUR-SULTAN, September 14. /TASS/. Kazakhstan’s ruling party faction in the parliament supported the introduction of a seven-year presidential term and renaming of the capital, the press service of the Mazhilis (lower house) reported on Wednesday.

"Mazhilis Speaker, Chairman of the Amanat party Yerlan Koshanov held a meeting of the faction today, with deputies from the Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan invited. Mazhilismen supported the initiative to introduce a seven-year presidential term without the right to be reelected as early as at the next election and to rename the capital back to Astana," the report said.

Deputies stressed in their speeches those reforms are progressive and fully meet the line of establishing fair Kazakhstan, according to the report.

Putin, Raisi to discuss Iranian nuclear deal situation at SCO summit — Kremlin aide

MOSCOW, September 13. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin at a bilateral meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s summit in Samarkand will discuss, among other things, the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told the media on Tuesday.

"Putin and Raisi will discuss the situation around the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program. As you know, Russia is in favor of restoring this nuclear deal to the configuration that was approved in 2015 by the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2231. Russia will continue diplomatic efforts in this context in order to help ensure that the situation around the JCPOA is eventually settled," Ushakov said.

The agenda will also include bilateral cooperation and the outlook for granting Iran full SCO membership. "The process began a long time ago. Now we are coming close to its completion. The leaders will discuss this topic, of course," Ushakov concluded.

Armenia has already appealed to Russia, CSTO, UN in connection with clashes on border

YEREVAN, September 13. /TASS/. The Armenian government has already turned to Russia, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the UN Security Council in connection with the clashes on the border with Azerbaijan, an official with the press service of the Cabinet told TASS.

"The government has already appealed to Russia, the CSTO and the UN Security Council in connection with Azerbaijan's encroachment on the country's sovereign territory," the press service said.

Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that at 00:05 on September 13, units of the Azerbaijani armed forces opened intense fire in the direction of the cities of Goris, Sotk and Jermuk using artillery, large-caliber and light small arms.

At an emergency meeting the Security Council of Armenia decided to seek help from the Russian Federation in order to implement the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, as well as the CSTO and the UN Security Council in connection with the aggravation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Armenian Prime Minister calls Putin due to escalation on border with Azerbaijan — Cabinet

YEREVAN, September 13. /TASS/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the parties discussed the escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Armenia reported this on Tuesday night.

"The Prime Minister gave details about the provocative, aggressive actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the direction of the sovereign territory of Armenia, which began at midnight and were accompanied by shelling from artillery and large-caliber fi****ms. The Prime Minister considered the actions of the Azerbaijani side unacceptable and stressed the importance of an adequate response from the international community," the statement says.

The Cabinet notes that the parties agreed to maintain an operational contact.

Russian, South African top diplomats discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation

MOSCOW, September 12. /TASS/. Issues of the further development of bilateral relations were the focus of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone talks with his South African counterpart, Naledi Pandor, the Russian foreign ministry said on Monday.

"The two top diplomats exchanged views on key topics of bilateral relations with a focus on strengthening political dialogue, expanding mutually beneficial trade-and-economic and other cooperation," the ministry said.

The sides reiterated their commitment to closer foreign policy coordination within the United Nations, BRICS, the Group of Twenty and other multilateral formats "with an aim of resolving pressing international and regionals problems via dialogue on the basis of the respect to the principles of the United Nations Charter," it said. "Apart from that, the minister discussed a schedule of upcoming contacts.".

MOSCOW, September 12. /TASS/. The Ukrainian army is planning a major offensive in the area of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and river crossings. Artillery systems, including M777 howitzers and MLRS are being brought to the area, the leader of the movement We are together with Russia, a member of the main council of the Zaporozhye region’s the military-civilian administration, Vladimir Rogov, said on the Rossiya-1 television channel.

Rogov said the Ukrainian military was getting ready for a "major offensive in the area of the nuclear power plant, river crossings and a little bit to the east."

Rogov stressed that, according to intelligence, all coordination of Ukraine's military operations on the line of engagement in the Zaporozhye Region was being carried out by Britain and the United States.

The Zaporozhye NPP, located in Energodar, is under the control of Russian troops. Recently, it has been exposed to the Ukrainian army’s systematic bombardments.
