Michael J. Reinhart is an adventure photographer, writer and explorer who produces the podcast Whiskey and a Map featuring interviews with the world’s most interesting adventurers and explorers. From his young years when his mother would watch him disappear out the back yard only to return hours later with a “treasure”, he has spent his life exploring the world: Scuba diver from the age of 13; Sailing a few years later; Mountaineer; and Adventure Racer. He has traveled and photographed in many far-off places around the world, and his travels include racing in the Eco-Challenge Expedition Race Borneo, exploring the Caribbean coast of Mexico and the Yucatan, summiting Mount Rainier, travels through Eastern Europe during its communist days and diving wrecks off the coast of California. Michael has worked in-country on humanitarian and medical projects in Guatemala and Kenya. He is a volunteer advisor to an Anti-Poaching NGO working to save Africa’s elephant and Rhino. He has degrees in Economics, Social Ecology-Criminology, a Juris Doctorate and a post graduate Diploma in International Law. Listen to the podcast at https://

My podcast Whiskey and a Map is approaching 30,000 downloads will be starting it's 5th season this January. In this new season, I'll be adding more features to the podcast. This coming Saturday I'll be interviewing Brandon Wilson and he will be one of the first guests posted in season 5. Post a question in the comments section below that you would like me to ask Brandon during the interview. Brandon is an award-winning author, explorer and peace pilgrim. He was awarded the prestigious Lowell Thomas Gold Award for best travel book and is an International Fellow of the Explorers Club. James Dorsey returns with more stories from his lifetime of adventure. James talks about his trip through China encountering Mongolian shaman and the stone carvings of Genghis Khan. He then takes us south to the island of Papua New Guinea and his encounter with the infamous tribe known as the mud men. From there to the witch markets of South American then to encounters with whales.

Summit of Mount Rainier via the Kautz Glacier route. Near perfect climbing conditions this summit day. It was a little unnerving crossing over the caldron knowing this is a volcano that can erupt at any time.

This shot almost didn't happen. The balloons had been grounded for more than a week due to bad weather. The morning for our flight saw fresh snow and heavy cloud cover. Then, at the last minute, the skies cleared and up we went.
