“Because we don’t have any vote to give or anything to do it’s more like sitting back and grabbing a bag of popcorn and looking at what’s going on. But yeah, I think people are aware that the elections have an impact on us in Europe and also on the whole world, I guess. So people are following it quite closely. The thing that, for me personally is most important, or which, I guess unsettles me the most, is that some people are trying to undermine the democratic foundation of the United States. And yeah that could have a very negative impact on the whole country in the long term. So I think that is quite troubling and we’ll see where it goes.”

"For the past three years I have helped to register hundreds of Emory students to vote in Georgia. And to be completely honest, I never really thought it would have this big of an impact until it came down to the wire and we’re seeing the results out of Georgia. It is such a close race here. Every single person who voted made such a big impact and it’s really just so rewarding to see all of that work that I’ve been helping out with over the past few years pay off. And the work has just begun!"

Her current line of artwork is digitally focused. Her art‘s about her roots, whether symbolic or literal, it is a timeline of her life and the events she’s lived through; which makes it all the more relatable.

¡Conoce a Jessica, una de nuestras artistas y la artista de nuestra última publicación! Ella es una estudiante de arquitectura de la Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana “José Antonio Echeverría”(Cujae). Le atrae todo lo relacionado con las artes plásticas, pero principalmente el dibujo a grafito. Para proyectos futuros le interesaría unir sus dos grandes pasiones, y también le gustaría estudiar con mayor profundidad algunas técnicas de las artes plásticas.
Meet Jessica, one of our artists and the artist behind our last post! Jessica is an architecture student in the Technical University of Havana; “Jose Antonio Echeverría” (Cujae). She is drawn to everything related to the plastic arts, but primarily drawing with graphite. For her future projects she is interested in uniting her two major passions, and she also wants to study plastic art techniques in more depth.
قابلوا جيسيكا، إحدى فنانينا والفنانة وراء آخر مشاركة لنا! جيسيكا طالبة هندسة معمارية في جامعة هافانا التقنية، "خوسيه أنطونيو إتشيفيريا" (كوجاي). تحب كل ما يتعلق بالفنون التشكيلية، خاصة الرسم باستخدام الجرافيت. بالنسبة لمشاريعها المستقبلية، فهي مهتمة دمج شغفيها الرئيسيين، كما تريد دراسة تقنيات الفن التشكيلي بعمق أكبر.
Desde 1929, cada 4 de octubre se celebra el Día Mundial de los Animales como iniciativa de la Organización Mundial para la Protección Animal. Para celebrar, queremos mostrarte este hermoso dibujo de Jessica Quintana, una de nuestras artistas, sobre una de las especies que actualmente se encuentra en peligro de extinción debido a la caza furtiva de sus colmillos.
Un informe de la ONU de 2019 alegó que un millón de animales se enfrentan a la extinción. Las causas humanas están provocando extinciones en todo el planeta y nos corresponde a nosotros revertir la situación. ¿Tú cómo ayudas a los animales?

To celebrate, we want to show you this beautiful drawing by Jessica Quintana, one of our artists, about one of the species that is currently in danger of extinction due to poaching for its tusks.
A 2019 UN report said one million animals face extinction. Human causes are driving extinctions across the planet and it is up to us to reverse the situation. How do you help animals?

Yaju Tuladhar is in her final year at UMass Amherst. She is passionate about uplifting communities of migrants, women, and minorities. When she isn’t advocating for justice, Yaju loves to travel & meet new people. She spent the last year abroad in Chile, Nepal, Jordan, and Spain and lived in DC last summer. Yaju is honored to capture stories of human resilience and is excited to connect the world with The Open. Today’s her 21st birthday!

Yaju Tuladhar se encuentra en su último año en UMass Amherst. Le apasiona alentar a las comunidades de migrantes, mujeres y minorías. Cuando no se encuentra abogando por la justicia, a Yaju le encanta viajar y conocer gente nueva. Pasó el último año en el extranjero en Chile, Nepal, Jordania y España y vivió en DC el verano pasado. Yaju tiene el honor de capturar historias de resiliencia humana y está muy emocionada de conectar el mundo con The Open. ¡Hoy es su cumpleaños número 21!

Amanda tiene 21 años y cursa actualmente el 4to año de la carrera de Sociología en la universidad de La Habana. A ella le apasiona su carrera y le interesa el estudio de temas relacionados a las áreas de las comunicaciones, la cultura, la antropología social y la semántica. Se enorgulleció mucho de poder trabajar en la construcción de una comunidad entre los jóvenes. Aspira a poder estudiar sobre el Marketing en un futuro ya que considera que es un tópico actualmente muy importante. Entre sus hobbies están el baile, la fotografía y le gustaría poder conocer el mundo.

اماندا عمرها ٢١ عاما وتدرس حاليا علم اجتماع في السنة الرابعة في جامعة هافانا. لديها طموح كبير في عملها وترغب بدراسة التواصل ، الثقافة , علم الانسان ودلالات الالفاظ. وهيي فخورة جدا للعمل على بناء مجتمع للشباب وتطمح في دراسة التسويق بالمستقبل. من اهم هواياتها الرقص و التصوير، و هي تريد ان تسافر إلى جميع أنحاء العالم.

Amanda is 21 years old and currently studying Sociology in her 4th year at University of Havana. She is passionate about her career and interested in the study of communications, culture, social anthropology and semantics. She is very proud to be able to work on building a community among the youth, and aspires to be able to study marketing in the future. Among her hobbies are dancing, photography, and she would like to travel all over the world.
