ANOTHER, WALKING WITH US
I am with you always, even to the end of the age. ~ Matthew 28:20

In 1922, American poet T. S. Eliot wrote the poem “What the Thunder Said” about the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

Who is the third who walks always beside you?
When I count, there are only you and I together
But when I look ahead up the white road There is always another one walking beside you.

Eliot notes, “These lines were stimulated by the account of one of the Antarctic expeditions . . . it was related that the party of explorers, at the extremity of their strength, had the constant delusion that there was one more member than could actually be counted.”

There is indeed another walking beside us. Jesus said, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). What a magnificent promise. His presence accompanies us just as He accompanied the disciples during the days He walked this earth. He is with us in every circumstance of life, a fact that gives us courage when we have no other encouragement but His love.

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age,”Jesus told His disciples. His promise looks beyond optimism to the end of time itself. New life awaits us at the end of our journey here. There is always “Another” walking beside us.

REFLECT & PRAY

Where and when do you feel closest to God? How can you remind yourself that this peace exists because of Jesus’ work on the cross?

Jesus, my peace came at the cost of Your agony. I never want to take that for granted. Thank You.

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

Good Friday
Though we are called to remember the gospel all year long, every day, there is a particular focus that Good Friday brings to the Easter celebration. Good Friday kicks off the most momentous historical weekend of the year; Good Friday is why we have a resurrection Easter celebration. Since the historical Friday that Jesus died on the cross for our sins as an innocent man, a perfect substitution and payment for the price of sin, Christians have proclaimed His resurrection far and wide.
God made sure that His Word recorded the history and proclaimed truth for millions to read and come to faith in in the years to follow. Good Friday fulfilled all the prophecies of the suffering servant who would be the Messiah, the one true King who would bring lasting peace. We didn’t have to beg Jesus to do this for us. He came as a willing servant and saved us while we were still sinners. He asked for nothing from us except faith, which is also a gift of grace from the Holy Spirit. Even when he was mocked on the cross, Jesus extended forgiveness and grace to the men on either side of Him--one of which would see Him in paradise that very day. Good Friday is good because the glorious victory of the resurrection and eternal life follow the dark day of suffering and death. Christianity.com

This event is celebrated each year by Christians on Palm Sunday. As written in the Gospels, Jesus came to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover and entered the city riding a donkey. He was greeted by a crowd acclaiming him by waving palm branches and laying cloaks on the ground to honor him.

Roaman :1-2 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Just Checking In

A Preacher passing through his church
In the middle of the day,
Decided to pause by the altar
To see who come to pray.
Just then the back door opened,
And a man came down the aisle,
The Preacher frowned as he saw the man
Hadn't shaved in a while.
His shirt was torn and shabby,
And his coat was worn and frayed,
The man knelt down and bowed his head,
Then rose and walked away.

In the days that followed at precisely noon,
The Preacher saw this man,
Each time he knelt just for a moment,
A lunch box in his lap.
Well, the Preacher’s suspicions grew,
With robbery a main fear.

He decided to stop and ask the man,
'What are you doing here?'
The old man said he was a factory worker
And lunch was half an hour
Lunchtime was his prayer time,
For finding strength and power.
I stay only a moment
Because the factory's far away;
As I kneel here talking to the Lord,
This is kinda what I say:

'I JUST CAME BY TO TELL YOU, LORD,
HOW HAPPY I HAVE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHERS FRIENDSHIP
AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.
DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY,
BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY.
SO, JESUS, THIS IS BEN,
JUST CHECKING IN TODAY.'

The Preacher was feeling foolish,
Told Ben that it was fine.
He told the man that he was welcome
To pray there anytime.
'It's time to go, and thanks,' Ben said
As he hurried to the door.
Then the Preacher knelt there at the altar,
Which he'd never done before.
His cold heart melted, warmed with love,
As he met with Jesus there.
As the tears flowed down his cheeks,
He repeated old Ben's prayer:

'I JUST CAME by TO TELL YOU, LORD,
HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHERS FRIENDSHIP
AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.
I DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY,
BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY.
SO, JESUS, THIS IS ME,
JUST CHECKING IN TODAY.'

Past noon one day, the Preacher noticed
That old Ben hadn't come.
As more days passed and still no Ben,
He began to worry some.
At the factory, he asked about him,
Learning he was ill.
The hospital staff was worried,
But he'd given them a thrill.

The week that Ben was with them,
Brought changes in the ward.
His smiles and joy contagious.
Changed people were his reward.
The head nurse couldn't understand
Why Ben could be so glad,
When no flowers, calls or cards came,
Not a visitor he had.

The Preacher stayed by his bed,
He voiced the nurse's concern:
No friends had come to show they cared.
He had nowhere to turn.
Looking surprised, old Ben spoke up
And with a winsome smile;
'The nurse is wrong, she couldn't know,
He's been here all the while.'
Everyday at noon He comes here,
A dear friend of mine, you see,
He sits right down and takes my hand,
Leans over and says to me:

'I JUST CAME BY TO TELL YOU, BEN,
HOW HAPPY I HAVE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND THIS FRIENDSHIP,
AND I TOOK AWAY YOUR SIN .
I THINK ABOUT YOU ALWAYS
AND I LOVE TO HEAR YOU PRAY,
AND SO BEN, THIS IS JESUS,
JUST CHECKING IN TODAY .'

May God hold you in the palm of His hand
And Angels watch over you.

10 When the Magi saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great gladness. 11 And when they came into the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary; and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:10-12

Epiphany means appearance and refers to the appearance of Jesus to the world. It is celebrated on January 6th, by Christians all around the world. The holiday is called the Feast of Epiphany or Three King’s Day.
It’s about the Three Wise Men or the Magi’s visit to the Baby Jesus.
Epiphany is the 12th day after Christmas and closes the Christmas season.

Third Sunday of Advent Readings: Joy

The third Sunday of Advent is Gaudete Sunday and is meant to remind us of the joy that the world experienced at the birth of our Savior Jesus.

Matthew 2:10-11, “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (NIV)

Hebrew 10:23 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Candle 1 (“The Prophet’s Candle”) is purple, lit during the first week of Advent, and symbolizes hope

The first week of Advent is the first Sunday in December after Thanksgiving and is a beautiful way to reflect during this busy season. The first week of Advent will start this year on December 3rd, 2023.

The First Week of Advent Candle
Advent Candle 1 stands for hope, and specifically, the Israelites' hope that the promised Messiah would come. They had been waiting for the Messiah for centuries, wondering what he would look like and what he would do when he arrived. When Jesus was born, that hope was finally fulfilled.

I want to be real and open with y'all for a moment. I'm not sharing this for pity or anything like that but because I know that someone reading this is most likely going through the same thing as me. You need to know that you're not alone just as I am not alone in my own struggles. I'm in a weary season, y'all. Life is like that, isn't it? It's full of highs and lows. Many days I find it difficult to slap a smile on my face and be cheerful because my heart is just tired. How many of y'all have been there or are there right now? I bet some of you are nodding your head right now. The truth is, we all go through weary seasons but we have to grow through them as well. I may not understand God's plan right now but I know He holds it all. I know that someday I'll look back on this weary season and understand why things are the way they are. I pray the same for all of you reading. My prayer is that we will lean closer to God during this time knowing that He has a plan and that plan will bring us through to brighter days. Most importantly, remember that you are not alone. Our Heavenly Father is with you and I am with you in prayer! Y'all be blessed!!
