It is absolutely okay if today you didn’t wake up feeling strong and ready to go right away. It’s okay if it takes a while to get into the rhythm of things. You were made to shine bright, but you don’t have to shine brightly all the time. You are free to ease your way into the sunlight. You are free to take your time. This world will ask a lot of you, but this remains true: You don’t have to perform and achieve all day long to shine like you were meant to.
As you travel through the day, I hope you can remember this: No matter the message you’ve received from the outside world or what you’ve been telling yourself: you are not weak for needing rest. You are not weak if you make it through the whole day and you never quite get the energy you were hoping for.
Let every day be what it needs to be. Remember that if you make it from one hour to the next, that is a sign of progress all on its own, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Hold onto this, and take a deep breath, knowing in the well of your soul: you are a human being. You are doing what you can. There is always room for growth, and at the same time, this remains true: you are not worth any less because of what you didn’t accomplish today.
Even here, it’s not too late to tell yourself a different story about what you should be able to accomplish in this season of your life. It’s not too late to redefine success and productivity. It’s not too late to seek out those small things that bring you a sense of peace, even in the busyness and chaos of life.
So here’s to welcoming grace right here where you are. No matter how much energy you do or do not have. No matter what you have or have not achieved. Here’s to engaging in the daily practice of learning how to just be.
