I have thought about the cost of dialysis and I think that we should do something about it. Ghanaians can not only depend on the government to solve this problem. Of course it is the government that can help relieve this burden from patients with kidney failure.
But individual Ghanaians can do something about it. Everyone, I mean you and I have a duty to perform. Most of these patients were not aware of their current predicament and some do not even know what they did to destroy their kidneys.
It is highly possible that, you and I can also find ourselves where they are if we do not help these patients or help find ways and means to prevent kidney diseases.
These people are really suffering and it's high time we have solved this problem. In a week, a kidney failure patient is supposed to have 3 dialysis and one dialysis cost 380 Ghana cedis, so having all three means a patient will have to pay 1140 Ghana cedis.
How can a middle class citizen or the poor farmer or the poor man in Ghana survive if he is supposed to pay this amount of money in just a week? Most of these people do not even earn 1000 cedis in a month, so will such a patient live to see the sun the following month?
Due to this unfortunate situation, most patients only go in for just one dialysis session. This means that, all the waste substances that were supposed to be cleansed by the kidney will be inside the body and most of them are seen with a protruding belly.
Due to this most of the patients pass away due to the fact that they were unable to pay for dialysis.
