New Initiative Provides Free Anti-Theft Devices for Hyundai Vehicles in Leesburg
Leesburg, VA (July 22, 2024) – In a move to bolster vehicle security for Hyundai owners, the Leesburg Police Department has launched a new initiative to provide free steering wheel locks. This program is designed to address the recent surge in thefts of older Hyundai models, which have been specifically targeted due to vulnerabilities in their ignition systems.

Hyundai Motor Company has supplied the steering wheel locks, which will be available to Hyundai owners whose vehicles were manufactured between 2016 and 2021 and do not have a proximity key entry or push-button start. To receive a lock, residents must be Loudoun County residents and present a copy of their vehicle registration to the Leesburg Police Department. Registrations can be emailed to [email protected], or residents can visit the police station for assistance during business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Leesburg Police emphasize the importance of taking additional precautions to secure vehicles. These include parking in well-lit areas, keeping valuables out of sight, and ensuring vehicle doors are always locked.

Fatal Accident on Waxpool Rd. Under Investigation
Loudoun County, VA (July 18, 2024): The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is currently investigating a fatal crash that took place this afternoon in Ashburn.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Waxpool Rd. and Red Rum Dr. following a report of a collision involving a sedan and an SUV. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the SUV did not sustain any injuries and was not treated on-site.

The LCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. The names of the drivers are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Investigator Atchinson at 703-777-1021. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Loudoun County Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919 or submit a tip through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office app.
