In geopolitics, even though we need to be selfish as the game of geopolitics describes, we sometimes tend to hurt other countries while following our interests. If the countries are less powerful than us, then we can somewhat bypass them or can take a stance against them firmly but when we have a dilemma with superpowers economically or militarily, then we need to think wisely and very carefully.
We need to predict both the worst and the best-case scenarios for our decisions and need to be prepared for them. All these tensions can many times lead to, somewhat compromising with our principles and ideologies to suit our needs. So to counter this and avert such pressure and always be free to follow our principles and ideologies we need to gain "STRATEGIC AUTONOMY".
Theoretically, only a lone superpower in a unipolar international order truly possesses "STRATEGIC AUTONOMY" since it is the only country that would wield overwhelming economic, industrial, military and technological capabilities and thus the power to resist pressure from all other states.
Even superpowers become susceptible to the pressure exerted by their superpower peers in bipolar or multipolar order, which means that their ability to be strategically autonomous is not absolute but relative.
We as a country have at least gained strategic autonomy to resist external pressure to change or moderate our core issues of national security and interest like our stance on Jammu and Kashmir but we may likely alter our policy on non-core issues by external pressure for example India voting against Iran in International Atomic Energy Agency by the influence of the USA. Hence, we need to strengthen our strategic autonomy so as not to mend our policies easily.
This can be achieved with help of strengthening and making our economy, industries, technology and most important defence of our country self-reliant i.e ("ATMANIRBHAR").
