Additionally, the LNYAD Independent Electoral Committee extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family and the entire Nuer community for the tragic loss of Eng. Chuol Majak Puot, May his soul rest in eternal peace.

President Salva Kiir has instructed the National Ministry of Transport and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and swift investigation to determine the cause of Wednesday’s plane crash, which claimed 20 lives in Unity State.

In a letter seen by Radio Miraya, Kiir emphasized that the investigation should provide answers to the grieving families of those killed in the crash.

He stated that the tragedy not only impacts the families of the deceased but also affects communities, the nation, and the oil industry as a whole.

President Kiir extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the staff of Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), and all those affected by the devastating crash.

A plane carrying 21 passengers, including the pilot, has crashed while departing from Unity Oil Field en route to Juba, killing 18 people and leaving three others in critical condition.

The pilot and co-pilot are among the dead.

The state government has dispatched a team, including the Minister of Information, to the crash site to assess the situation.

Western Equatoria State SPLA-IO Spokesperson Maj Joseph Costa has said 10 soldiers were killed and 15 others wounded by forces loyal to SSPDF officer James Nando in Kaburi Bou Tuesday morning.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Costa said their base came under heavy attack from Monday by Gen. Nando who switched to SSPDF in 2019.

“On Monday we received information that there is deployment of SSPDF in our areas. Nando moved from Maridi to our assembly areas and when he reached Tambura and Nagero, he started killing people and burning houses,” said Costa.

“He came with full forces with three vehicles. Our forces were just waiting for the second phase so that they could go for training but the SSPDF attacks our positions daily,” he added.

Costa said those wounded were still in the forest without any treatment.

“We have clashed and 15 people are wounded, no place to take them for treatment because we are caught up with 10 people killed,” he added.

The spokesperson called for urgent investigation of the attacks by the government forces.

He said the opposition forces in Western Equatoria State were counting more than 5 attacks daily.

Meanwhile, Nagero County Commissioner Henry Bangada confirmed the killings, adding that Nando also looted one of the hospitals and killed an old man.

“It started on Monday and Nando came from Maridi and caused problems. He came through Tambura and was arresting people rampantly on the road,” said Bangada.

He said three people were still missing as the fighting continued.

“There are three youth still at large since Monday, those wounded are 15,” he said.

For his part, Gen. James Nando claimed being ambushed between Kubri Bou and Nagero County in Western Equatoria State on Monday morning.

Nando told Radio Tamazuj that he was ambushed by SPLM-IO forces.

“I was traveling to Kubri Bou when I was ambushed by SPLM-IO forces along the road,” he stated.

Early Life and Introduction to Photography

Ruot Bayoch Gatluak Dinay, a passionate landscape photographer, was born and raised in Ethiopia. His love for photography began in 2006 when his uncle, James Wal Gatluak, visited from Canada during the Christmas season in Gambella, Ethiopia. James handed Ruot a camcorder to capture the festive celebrations, sparking a lifelong passion for photography.

Journey into Media and Music

In 2010, Ruot expanded his creative horizons by venturing into music. He organized concerts in Addis Ababa and documented these joyous moments, gaining valuable exposure in the media. This experience further fueled his passion for capturing life's beautiful moments through the lens.

Promoting Akobo Through Photography

Upon returning to Akobo in 2015, Ruot was disheartened by the negative media portrayal of his homeland, which often focused on violence and conflict. Determined to change this narrative, he used his photography to highlight the beauty and friendliness of Akobo and its people. His work aims to promote peace, unity, and attract investors to the region.

Achievements and Vision

In 2023, Ruot opened a recording studio in Akobo, despite challenges in finding a music producer willing to travel to the area. His photographic work has made a significant impact, showcasing the hidden gems of Akobo and South Sudan to the world. Ruot believes in the potential of Akobo's natural resources, such as fish, honey, fertile land, wildlife, and stunning landscapes, to contribute to South Sudan's economic recovery

Future Aspirations

Ruot's intuition guides him in choosing locations to photograph, capturing the essence of Akobo's unique places. In the next five years, he envisions owning a photo studio or film industry, continuing to share the beauty of his homeland. Although he does not hold a formal degree in photography, his passion and dedication shine through his work.

Eden Agri Farms leads South Sudan’s agricultural transformation

As South Sudan prioritizes agriculture to combat hunger, poverty, and food insecurity, Eden Agri Farms has emerged as a leader in the sector, demonstrating a sustainable and impactful approach to farming.

At its Jebel Ladu farm, located along the Terekeka Highway, the company has achieved remarkable milestones. Onions planted on 75 acres in August last year are now being harvested, marking the success of their first batch. Meanwhile, maize planted in July 2024 has also been harvested, with the yield currently processed at milling facilities.

In addition to maize and onions, Eden Agri Farms has cultivated sorghum, which is currently being harvested. The farm also includes a banana plantation in Bai Bai, situated behind Jebel Ladu mountain, as well as vegetable crops such as eggplants, okra, and chilies. Plans are underway to introduce more vegetable varieties in the coming months.

Jebel Ladu farm operates year-round thanks to irrigation, ensuring consistent fresh food production. Looking ahead, the company intends to expand into poultry and animal farming to further diversify its operations.

Eden Agri Farms’ ultimate goal is to reduce South Sudan’s reliance on imported food and produce a surplus for export. The company is encouraging all South Sudanese to embrace farming during the upcoming planting season, contributing to the nation’s agricultural revolution.

By setting an example with its large-scale farming initiatives, Eden Agri Farms is proving that agriculture is not only vital for food security but also key to the country’s economic transformation.
