LIST UPDATED AGAIN @ 10:15PM. PLEASE REFER TO MOST UPDATED LIST IN THE SHERIFF APP.

UPDATED list of cleared roadways was edited again at 9:32PM in the DeSoto Sheriff App. Most roadways with exception of 3 have been cleared. There also appears to be an area wide power outage stretching from at least Joaquin, Tx to East of Stanley. We have no information to provide on an ETA at this time. Various areas are experiencing high water. Expect closures, and avoid areas prone to flooding.

𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗳𝗲:

•Whenever you return a borrowed pie pan, make sure it's got a warm pie in it.
•Make home a happy place for the children. Everybody returns to their happy place.
•Always keep a small light on in the kitchen window at night.
•It's a whole lot easier to get breakfast from a chicken than a pig.
•Always pat the chickens when you take their eggs.
•Biscuits brown better with a little butter brushed on 'em.
•Check your shoelaces before runnin' to help somebody.
•Homemade's always better'n store bought.
•A tongue's like a knife. The sharper it is the deeper it cuts.
•It's easy to clean an empty house, but hard to live in one.
•Enjoy doing your children's laundry. Some day they'll be gone.
•All children spill milk. Learn to smile and wipe it up.
•There's no such thing as woman's work on a farm. There's just work.
•Invite lots of folks to supper. You can always add more water to the soup.
•A good neighbor always knows when to visit and when to leave.
•A city dog wants to run out the door, but a country dog stays on the porch 'cause he's not fenced-in.
•Always light birthday candles from the middle outward.
•Nothin' gets the frustrations out better'n splittn' wood.
•You'll never catch a runnin' chicken but if you throw seed around the back door you'll have a skillet full by supper.
•Visit old people who can't get out. Some day you'll be one.
•The softer you talk, the closer folks'll listen.
•The colder the outhouse, the warmer the bed.

Love Dolly!!! But, who doesn’t??

Love Dolly!!! But, who doesn’t??

She is fantastic....
Country singer Dolly Parton wrote the songs "I Will Always Love You" and "Jolene" on the same night.
When the first song was at the top of the charts in 1974, Elvis wanted to record his own version of the song. Dolly was interested until Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis' manager, said that it was standard procedure that when the king of rock and roll covered a song - half of the rights to that song would go to him in the future. She refused it.
"I said, 'I'm really, really sorry' and cried all night. It was terrible for me, on the one hand, it's Elvis. People told me: "You are crazy." It's Elvis Presley...' but I just couldn't do it. Something told me in my heart not to do it and I didn't. I know he would rock with that song. But I couldn't. And then Whitney Houston came along with her version and I made enough money from the rights to buy Dollywood."
She grew up in severe poverty and no one famous has done more for the education of the poor than her.
In 1990, the percentage of students who did not graduate from high school in her hometown was over 30%. She introduced the "Buddy Program", where all high school graduates received a nice sum when they graduated. It wasn't just a waste of money, she personally came and explained the concept to them - everyone should find a buddy, and whoever doesn't succeed she will find one for them. Everyone had to sign that they would graduate and do everything in their power to ensure that their buddy also graduated. She taught young people about friendship and helping. The number of school dropouts dropped to below 6% and has remained so until today.
When 900 families lost their homes in the 2016 fires, she paid each family $1,000 for the next five months. When she came to the bank to finish the paperwork, she gave each family another $5,000 to find. A total of nine million dollars.
Also, her work - Imagination Library from 1995, was inspired by her realization that young people in rural areas and poor families already fall behind when they start school and that this prevents them from pursuing higher education. The goal of her program was for every child in her district to receive one book, once a month, from birth to school, completely free of charge, without any conditions. It started as an initiative in her hometown and has spread to a huge number of countries around the world. By 2018, over 100 million books were distributed in this way.
She is also known for her witty statements, at the beginning of her career she said-"I'm not offended by jokes about stupid blondes because I know I'm not stupid... and I'm not really blonde either."

"Republic Pictures gave me a screen credit on one of the early pictures and called me Michael Burns. On another one they called me Duke Morrison. Then they decided Duke Morrison didn't have enough prestige. My real name, Marion Michael Morrison, didn't sound American enough for them. So they came up with John Wayne." 💪🏼

This past week has been so full of emotions and events!!! Graduations, school year coming to an end, and summer fun and vacations coming soon!!! But this is just a reminder of Memorial Day coming up on May 27th. This is the day that we remember all the men and women in the military that have made the ultimate sacrifice for us to have the freedoms we have today. Our hats are off and our heads bow to your memory. Gone but not forgotten.
