Took a couple hours yesterday to try to ride my planned 35 mile route for my July run…

After several wrong turns - 1 that placed me on a street with no sidewalks and tons of semi trucks 🚛- and battling the wind 💨 I made it about 20 miles then rode home exhausted and frustrated 😪 😠 (25 total miles)

A small part of me left wondering: “if I struggled riding my bike 25 mile, how the 🤬am I gonna 🏃🏻‍♂️ 35?? 😱

But I gotta realize it was just day 1, give myself some grace, and remember it’s a process of training.

I have a looonnngg way to go, many hours of work & preparation… but I’m confident that I’ll make the adjustments & improvement to accomplish the goal: 35 miles on my 35th bday 🥳

When was the last time you created something, or expressed yourself artistically?

A year ago I went glass blowing for the 1st time with a group of Uncommon gentlemen. None of us had ever done it before, and we loved it! Trying our hand at something new, expressing our individuality, and having an end product that now serves to remind us of the incredible weekend we shared- doesn’t get much better!

Yet I suspect for many of us, our default isn’t to create, but to consume. We listen to music or podcasts, read books & articles, and maybe even admire art at our local museum…

But what do we have to gain if we move from passive consumer to proactive creator?

Choosing to create- whatever the outlet - will transcend mere productivity; it will become our vehicle for self-discovery, skill development, innovation, authentic community, resourcefulness and emotional well-being!

It ain’t training with a SEAL... but nothin sucks like hustling the fam to and through the airport at 🌅, checking bags, getting the car seat stuck in the security x-ray machine 😬, then traipsing all the way to the very last gate at the far end of the airport 😓

Glad I had this audio book to distract myself with this hilariously insightful story by Thee about embracing the suck as you shatter your perceived limitations.
In comparison, the airport is a 🎂 🚶🏻

Walk to very end of airport to the LAST gate... 😵
Always makes me ask, “Is vacation worth it?” 😆 Every parents biggest sigh of relief when traveling: making it on your flight 🙌🏻

I had then privilege of sitting down with an Uncommon man of God, Mr John Ottley, and hear as he recounted God’s faithfulness to him over his life.

Just started reading Crawford Loritts's book "Leadership as an Identity"
Chapter 2 is on recognizing our brokenness and embracing our desperate need for God

"A broken person has cube to realize that he is nothing and can do nothing apart from God's presence and enabling power" (John 15:5)

With work, kids and all our other commitments, prioritizing dating, romance and fun requires intentional planning and commitment. Whether once a week, bi-weekly or even monthly, we have to pursue each other through regular dates and quality time. Determine your rhythm. Get creative. Invest in your friendship 👫It ain’t east, but it’s worth it ❤️ 💍 💪🏻

Look what book we found at our local library! Moral of the story: our kids don't need us to do a bunch of awesome stuff for them; they mostly just want to make awesome memories WITH us!
Involve them in the decisions and empower them to learn from hands on experience

5 years flew by! From trials to triumphs, career changes, vacations, and raising 2 boys… it’s been 1 heck of a ride!
It’s also been a ton of work, a lot of failure, apologizing, forgiving, learning and growing.
We ain’t experts and we sure ain’t perfect, but thankfully we serve a God who is, and He lavishes His grace on us!

While he cried 😭 and screamed “I don’t wanna go!”the whole car ride there, I knew once we arrived that he’d have a blast (especially with an Icee 😬).

So thankful that he’s now at the age where I can take him out for 1-in-1 “dude dates” and make some great father son 👨‍👦memories! ❤️ ⚾️
