Emma’s motherhood journey was not without its scares. Early in her pregnancy, she started to bleed and thought she was having a miscarriage.

Then during a routine 20-week scan, she experienced another surge of anxiety after learning her unborn baby girl’s head appeared abnormally large.

Following her daughter’s birth, Emma described how the unique appearance of her little one reminded her and her husband Andy of the alien baby depicted on the packaging of the Space Raiders crisps.

I RETURNED HOME AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO FIND MY BABY'S ROOM REPAINTED BLACK – MY MIL REGRETTED THIS BIG TIME

I just gave birth to my baby girl, Amelia, two weeks ago. My husband, Tim, and I had been excited for months, and we created the perfect nursery—soft pink walls, white furniture, cute animals, the works. I couldn't wait to bring our daughter home after a difficult C-section.

Well, that excitement died the second I opened the nursery door. MY HEART STOPPED.

The room was DESTROYED. The walls were black, the entire room was also covered with ugly black patches, the baby clothes, toys—everything—GONE. I stood there holding Amelia, totally stunned. "What the hell is this?" I asked, shaking.

RUDE CASHIER BELITTLED ME FOR BEING OLD AND POOR – A MOMENT LATER, KARMA STRUCK BACK AND MY LIFE CHANGED FOREVER.
Recently, I went to the supermarket to buy a bun. I live alone now since my family abandoned me, and moments like these bring me a little joy.
As I reached the checkout counter, I suddenly realized, with horror, that I had lost the two dollars I needed to buy the bun. Desperately, I began searching for coins in my purse, hoping to find enough to cover the cost.
The cashier, seeing my struggle, said harshly,
Hurry up, old lady. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't be here wasting our time.
Her words cut deep, and I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me. I could feel the eyes of the other customers on me, and my face turned red with shame.

This is Emma Lilian Todd, the first woman to design an airplane.
Born in Washington DC, Emma Lilian Todd (1865-1937) was a self-taught inventor who liked to take things, such as clocks, apart and put them back together to see how they worked.
A lawyer and a clerk in the US patent Office, she would type up patent applications, and she learned what worked, and what didn’t work. She started small, working on inventing a typewriter copy holder and mechanical toys.
Inspired by airships she saw on a trip to London, Todd began creating designs around 1903 and trying and eliminating different features and modifications, persisting until she successfully designed a working aircraft that improved upon the Wright brothers' model. About the process, she exclaimed, “There is no work so discouraging, so exasperating, so delightful, so mean, so difficult, so exhilarating as building aeroplanes.”
Todd’s work in aviation was noticed by philanthropist Olivia Sage when she exhibited her first design at a Madison Square Garden airshow. Sage became Emma’s patron, giving her $7,000 to design and build an aircraft. Todd wanted to fly the plane herself but was denied a pilot’s license due to her gender, so her plane was successfully flown by test-pilot Didier Masson.
Todd was a little-known, self-taught engineer who contributed to, but has largely been forgotten by history.

As a struggling single mom, I finally decided to take my daughter out for dinner. She was OVERWHELMED by the new environment and had a hard time sitting still. The dinner ended with her having a FULL MELTDOWN. 😩

THIS HAPPENS. It's a NORMAL PART OF LIFE, or so I kept telling myself as I tried to clean up the mashed potatoes she'd thrown all over the table.
