Tracking Severe Storms Tuesday Afternoon/Evening

Good afternoon everyone! The morning line of storms is starting to exit the state. Over the next few hours, our atmosphere will start to destabilize as clouds start to clear out and sunshine comes out. This will lead to the development of showers and storms tonight.

Timing: We expect storms to start to fire after 3 pm and storms will be possible through sunset tonight.

Hazards: All modes of severe weather will be in play today.
Tornado: A few tornadoes will be possible and there is an elevated risk for large, long-track tornadoes.
Hail: 1-2.5" will be possible in some of the stronger cells.
Winds: Wind gusts could reach upwards of 60-70 mph.

There will be more updates to come and make sure you stay weather aware.

4:00 AM Radar update: Widespread showers and storms are moving through Central Indiana this morning. The good news is that our area has no active watches or warnings.

Storms are still expected to fire later on this afternoon and they could be severe with all modes possible. Stay weather-aware this afternoon.

The biggest outbreak I’ve ever covered. A very long day and luckily there were 0 fatalities reported!

1 year ago today was a historic day. 29 tornadoes were surveyed for the Quad Cities NWS forecast area... which was the most in one day.

147 total tornadoes were surveyed with the system across 16 states. That is the 3rd most tornadoes for a 24-hour period on record for the country.

Our hometowns saw zero fatalities... which stands out to me most. That day turned dangerous quickly but a huge thanks to first responders, all the forecasters, and to the public for making sure everyone stayed as safe as possible!
