Notwithstanding the high heat index, the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) has recently marked a significant turning point in academic pursuit as the thesis deliberation was completed successfully by Elasticos. The culmination of these efforts represents a milestone for both students and faculty alike, underscoring the dedication and scholarly rigor that define the College of Engineering and Architecture. With innovative research and forward-thinking solutions, elasticos has not only demonstrated academic excellence but also set a precedent for future endeavors within the field.

The first department under the College of Engineering and Architecture is the Architecture Department. Conducting thesis deliberation is often and normally known as a serious and nerve-wracking situation, making it for proponents to be put under pressure. Although the overall ambiance was observed to have a sense of heightened seriousness, one proponent from the architecture department managed to lighten the mood by adding some humor to the proceedings by explaining their floor plan presentation in an amusing way–which elicited genuine laughter from the panelists for a while. Such an approach just shows how an Elastico incorporates creativity to bring out a sense of ease to an otherwise serious situation.

Following is the Civil Engineering department. The department decided to facilitate the thesis deliberation via Google Meet on May 06–10, 2024, to guarantee a smooth presentation despite the external challenges. Some of the notable proposed titles from BSCE 4A cover a broad range of knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering. These include monitoring construction projects, runoff analysis, and groundwater quality evaluation as well. The aforesaid thesis titles demonstrate the understanding of Elasticos in terms of practical applicability in its research endeavors. Overall, there are a total of 75 groups from the Civil Engineering department who presented their studies and defended them.

Meanwhile, thesis deliberation in the Mechanical Engineering department was held on April 20, 2024, up until May 10, 2024. This is because several groups from the fourth-year level are slated to present their studies. Some studies include Energy Generation, Mini Hydropower System, Optimum Soil Development and more.

Moving forward to the Industrial Engineering thesis deliberation for this year, which was held from May 2–13, 2024, and unveiled a bundle of innovative research that focuses on enhancing industrial processes with the integration of industrial principles. The thesis deliberation gave students the opportunity to dig into the intricacies of their field, from process improvement to methods engineering approaches and the unification of ergonomics principles. Furthermore, waste management was also included, emphasizing the discipline’s dedication to sustainable methods. The research of the students is an evident testament to the fact that the field of industrial engineering is a fundamental specialty in creating efficient and ecologically conscious industrial domains.

Next, the department of Electrical Engineering commences thesis deliberation on May 6 and 10, 2024, signifying research centered on energy conservation, optimization, and production. The presentation transpired in rooms 201 and 202 of the CEA B building, where the students engaged with their panelists, which consisted of three faculty members from the department of electrical engineering, along with their thesis adviser and research coordinator. The thesis defense serves as the pinnacle of academic success for students, cultivating mastery and being the epitome of success in the field of electrical engineering.

The next one is the Department of Computer Engineering, which recently conducted the annual thesis deliberation, which is scheduled for two days, May 20 and 21, 2024, with a total of 11 groups that showcased their advanced research that is centered on pioneering innovative projects designed for technological development and societal change. The Computer Engineering Department's annual thesis deliberation unequivocally sheds light on tomorrow's technological landscape.

Lastly, in the Electronics Communication Engineering department, the thesis deliberation week was held online on April 29, 30 and May 2, 2024. There were 17 groups from the 4th year level who dauntlessly defended their studies. Mr. Samuel Cano from BSECE 4A, who received 1st Best Paper award, 1st Best Presenter, Most Outstanding Member, 3rd Best Dressed, and 3rd Best Thesis shared his experience about the recent thesis deliberation week in their department. He quoted that, “Yes, successful siya (the thesis deliberation week) kahit online ginanap kasi na-meet naman lahat ng objectives ng thesis defense.” He also added that “Completing a thesis marks the end of your year as an Elastico. It’s like utilizing all the concepts that you learned from the previous years in making a significant contribution.” This imprints the idea that Elasticos are putting their shoulders to the wheel of progress and innovation.

In an exclusive interview of the publication with the CEA dean, Engr. Jun P. Flores, he talked about the challenges encountered by the department and the adjustments made to push through in rendering the thesis deliberation. "Despite the challenges encountered, 'di papatinag ang CEA as we are equipped with the skills and competences, pushing ourselves to at least render such activities like the thesis deliberation." Engr. Flores said as he underscored the resiliency and dedication of the CEA community in the face of the challenges.

As the academic year progresses, the College of Engineering and Architecture looks forward to further achievements and the ongoing pursuit of knowledge that shapes the future of Engineering and Architecture. It is evident that Elasticos are in a class of their own given that they are thinking out-of-the-box, breaking new ground, and being a symbol of grindstone.

“UAPSA NatCon, as [its] theme says, "Alab ng Tagumpay" has been an avenue where triumphs and challenges were celebrated. It has been a journey of ups and [downs] but as we gather in the last national event, it signifies that we were able to surpass every [struggle] along the way that brought us [into] our individual and collective victory. I think that National Congress 2024, is a celebration of stories towards victories,” Alonzo remarked.

Alonzo also voiced his emotions as he spoke about his remarkable experience as an Honorian officer at the national level.

“It hits me hard as it was the last national event under our term. It was a roller coaster ride of emotions. It has been remarkable in a way that I was able to witness a showcase of talent, culture and personality. As an honorian, I was able to represent who we [were] in a crowd of different personalities, and as an architecture student who has this national position, [and] NatCon 2024 [enabled] me to witness how genuine people are across the country. We are not just a creator of spaces but we are crafting inclusive spaces and platforms for everyone,” the fourth year architecture student expressed.

The United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary is the integrated and recognized national professional association of architectural students in the Philippines, with the aim of spreading the ideals and ambitions, and instituting discipline of all architects.

In partnership with the United Architects of the Philippines - Sinukwan Pampanga Chapter, the UAPSA - DHVSU Chapter held a live talk event entitled “Arkhitekton 3.0: Inside the Master Builder's Mind” with Ar. Royal Pineda being the guest speaker at SM City San Fernando Downtown on Saturday, May 11.

In the said live talk, Ar. Pineda emphasizes the importance of modern Filipino Architecture and how to incorporate it into architectural design with an underlying meaning that reflects Filipino culture.

"You must be truthful in your design and incorporate modern Filipino Architecture while digging the roots of the nature", Ar. Pineda stated.

Additionally, Ar. Pineda also showcased his different projects in Pampanga, including the Clark International Airport, which won as one of the most beautiful airports in the world, and the Sacobia River Bridge, which is inspired by the parol of Kapampangans.

Moreover, the event ended with a grand raffle, which rewarded the winners with different reading materials, a free site visit, and another ticket to another talk show.

Arkhitekton 3.0 is an event arranged by the UAPSA DHVSU Chapter that showcases the beauty of modern Filipino Architecture and how future architects can incorporate it into their designs, preserving and celebrating the roots of being Filipino.

Four industrial engineering alumni successfully passed the 14th Certified Industrial Engineering Examination held online, administered by the Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. (CEM) conducted last April 14 and 17, 2024.

Johanan P. Tayag, a Summa Cum Laude graduate, ranked 14th out of 312 passers in the recently concluded Certified Industrial Engineering Examination with a rating of 77.29. Engr. Tayag stated that her preparations were similar to what is commonly known as the basic preparation for the upcoming examinations, which includes joining a review center, finding a suitable review schedule, and applying different learning techniques with the assistance of mentors. Despite following this routine, she still did not believe that her strength and capacity were what made her to the 14th spot, but rather highlighted three things: dedication, faith, and grace.

In a recent interview, Engr. Tayag jokingly said that cash incentives were what kept her going, then expressed her delight as she mentioned the people that served as her motivation throughout her whole college and review period.

“Can I say cash? Haha, because, one of the factors that encouraged me then was the cash incentives for listers. So I tried to keep the grades high enough to be included in the list. Kidding aside, surely, the factors that kept me motivated during those four years were my whole family’s never-ending support and my friends, mentors, and peers’ continuous encouragement. Well, it is more like what kept me surviving were their support, reassurance, and concerns. Yung feeling na susuko ka na pero nakasalo sila sa’yo, without any judgment.” Engr. Tayag stated.

Engr. Tayag also shared some advice that can help fellow Elasticos succeed , such as to enjoy the learning process, prioritize tasks efficiently, have a support system, and take care of one’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and mental aspects of health.

“Struggles are good because you know that you are in the process of growing. The output then relies on how you react and handle it. Enjoy the learning process, not just the reward (or grade). Surround yourself with people who can help you spiritually, emotionally, socially, and academically. Have a support system and have your study buddy. Don’t forget your sleep. I know this is hard especially for college students, but we should always find time to rest as it will keep our minds and body ready and more effective. Depends on God. Nothing can be gained without His grace, nobody can triumph without His guidance, overall, none can’t survive without Him. Trust in His plans and His heart. Give your worries to Him… [Siya] na ang bahala. Lastly, No BF muna hahaha… [Just] kidding. Focus on your goals, you will reach them soon. Padayon, Elasticos!” Engr. Tayag said.

Furthermore, Engr. Dave Dela Cruz, Engr. Jerico Gotis, and Engr. Jena Mae Lumanlan also made it to the list of new CIEs. Under the Philippine Technological Council, which is the governing body of 13 professional engineering associations and which manages the ASEAN Engineer Registry in the Philippines, the new CIEs are now qualified to apply for the title of Associate ASEAN Engineer.
