FIRE AT GREAT BARR BEAUTY SALON OVERNIGHT
Five fire engines, two fire officers, an Ambulance Officer, and two police cars attended a fire which took hold at Greenleaf Treatments on Paper Mill End off Aldridge Road in Great Barr last night (16/02). The fire began around 21:30, with firefighters arriving on scene within minutes. A couple of witnesses to the incident, who work in Shah Balti Express next door, recalled smelling smoke, before checking all their ovens, and then switching off the electrics. They left the building and saw smoke coming from the upstairs of the neighbouring unit. Soon after the smoke alarms started going off. They described the smoke as smelling electrical.
Smoke began to plume and fill the air, as more and more firefighters arrived at the scene, donning breathing apparatus, smashing their way into the building through the windows carrying oxygen tanks. They warned onlookers to stay away and avoid getting the smoke on them.
As the fire began to die down soon before 10:30PM, a single washing machine was brought out and examined outside the shop.
