We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of New Zealand's great contributors to the fitness and Jiu-Jitsu industries, Maureen Oliver.
Maureen passed away surrounded by family yesterday, and our hearts and love go out to the entire Oliver family at this time.
Maureen was the wife of the late Don Oliver, who represented New Zealand at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. In 1975 they opened their first Oliver Fitness Centre, with a further five to follow over the years. However, at the peak of it all, they also added the Oliver Fitness Equipment Range, which one could only imagine required a particular person capable of administering such an empire. That person was Maureen, and not only did she keep the entire operation running from behind the scenes, but she was the backbone of the Oliver business and family.
Maureen's involvement in the fitness industry saw her take on another role in supporting her son and founder of New Zealand Grappler, Steve Oliver. You would have come across Maureen if you had ever attended any NZ Grappler tournament over the years. She was this beautiful lady that always greeted you with a smile at the weigh-in station, registration desk, or throughout the day of the event. Nothing was ever a problem, and it didn't matter where the event was; Maureen was always there, a truly selfless and unsung hero.
Moe Mai Ra Maureen, thank you for your significant contribution to the New Zealand Jiu-Jitsu industry, and we will miss you dearly❤️🙏
