Just like the leaves on the trees outside, I’m in a season of change. The leaves changing as it cycles through its season & then falling softly to the ground… doesn’t signal the end, but rather a new chapter. One of transformation, rest & soon…regrowth. I’m going through the seasons just like the earth. I give myself grace & watch the transformation within myself with awe, just as I watch in awe of the leaves on the trees that gift us with its beautiful colors of change. Change isn’t bad. Sometimes, it’s the most beautiful thing. It deserves the embrace I’ve learned to wrap it in.

Another postpartum visit & baby snuggles. I love postpartum visits for getting to debrief with the parents on their thoughts & emotions of the entire birth process & check in with them postpartum. This can help eliminate the rate of post partum depression. I love gifting a home cooked meal too. 🤍

As much as I LOVE being a soccer mom, I’m so ready for this month break 🙌🏼 Travel soccer is no joke, year round practices, tournaments, etc & then don’t get me started on summer house soccer too! This year, both kids tried out for travel, so this year might be busier than last year if they both make the team. Fingers crossed they do though. Wouldn’t change it for the world, but the break for the next month will be a nice one ;)

The last month has been chaos, but in the midst of it all… my baby boy graduated elementary school 🥹
Middle school here we come.

Second surgery in 3 weeks. Ugh. First surgery, I was stitched too tight & left with nerves trapped in it, so at my post op appointment… my surgeon informed me we needed to do an urgent surgery the very next day. Talk about a shock. I’m frustrated to start the healing process all over, but so relieved to not have that pulling pain I was having. I woke up from anesthesia much better this time around & I am feeling quite hopeful. Getting in lots of snuggles with my babies is the icing on the cake!!

Finally went to see the Magnolias at Highland Park! 🌸
I was having a rough flare up day, but it was stunning out so pushed myself to go for a walk among the magnolias (Hooked up to to help with the pain) ! Flowers are always a huge mood booster for me! Speaking of which, my peony bush is getting SO big already AND has flower buds on it this year! 🌸😍
Peonies take a couple years to flower- Usually 3-5 years. This is year 3 & I can’t wait to see & smell those beautiful blooms!

We went & started on our garden today to get it ready for transplant time. This is my favorite time of year!

Anyone sick of the white brick wall yet? Because I’m definitely not! I absolutely love photographing & making content in my cute studio space!

Anyways… Let’s talk Scrubs & why I love them as a doula! 🌸

If anyone has given birth, attending a birth, or even watched a birth… you may already know that it can be M E S S Y. Beautiful, but messy! Let me give you an example 👇🏼👇🏼

I was at a birth & it was pushing time for mama! Her waters were intact still & with one big push… SPLASH! I was in the zone & it (it being amniotic fluid, blood & other bodily fluids) completely covered me from the waist down. No big deal, happens with the job! We continue on & I rinsed off & change into the spare clothes I keep in my doula bag after baby made their arrival & all was good.

The scrubs I prefer are the water resistant ones for this exact reason & they are antimicrobial.

That’s not the only reason though. As Doulas, we move around A LOT. Scrub pants give us the range of motion we need when helping our mamas through labor, but not as thin as leggings would be. They are helpful for wicking away sweat! It also is super helpful to just have them set aside for births only & not have to try to find something to put on at 3 am when I am woken from sleep to go to a birth.

Myself personally, I have not worn a scrub top to a birth, though I’m not against it. I just usually wear a doula shirt with scrub pants! However, with an identification on as a doula, I think a scrub top would be great too.
My personal advice if you are a doula in scrubs… is to choose colors that don’t match staff at the hospital. They are usually in a burgundy, navy blue, light blue or surgical green at the hospitals here, so I only own black & fun colors! That way I don’t blend in with the staff.

If you’re looking for comfy scrubs, are of course a favorite of mine. They have so many different colors, styles & sizes & often run great sales.

The weather can’t make up its mind here in Western NY (are any of you surprised at that though?) >> so it’s been back to cold weather outfits. I was a litttttllllleeee bit excited for this though because I just got in these new vegan leather pants from & was itching to wear them. I love how soft the inside lining is!

Not gonna lie, I ordered the black ones & they accidentally sent me brown & I just rolled with it because they are super cute. I’m happy for the mix up, because I never would have thought to get brown on my own.

Anyways, now that I got to wear them… I’m ready for the weather to get & stay warm! Bring on gardening & sunshine season 🌸🌱☀️
