A Social Media Horror Story 💀

As a social media manager I sometimes hear stories that make my toes curl! Here are a few because it is spooky szn 👻 after all 😜 but luckily these types of scenarios aren't that common.

But here are some tips to help you to proceed with caution ⚠️

🎃 Don't be sold a dream by a fantastic sales team
🎃 Do your own research
🎃 Ask to see reviews and testimonials
🎃 Check out other accounts and if you can speak to their clients
🎃 Don't get tied into long contracts that you can't get out of, try to negotiate cooling off or trial periods. I only ask new clients to sign up for 3 months initially.
🎃 If something feels off, trust your gut!

Allow me to reintroduce myself.....

My name is Emily and I am the one-woman army behind Grand Prix Socials 🤪

I have a lot of experience working with wellness sector businesses but due to my obsession (🤣) with horses I work with equestrian and equestrian-focused businesses too.

I am also a member of the NHS workforce and I work in a fairly bespoke role running training courses for Endoscopists in the UK. I have a number of years experience within the training sector, as well as almost 30 years in admin and management roles.

In the spare time I have, you can usually find me on a livery yard with a horse or 2, or pandering to a couple of spoilt bulldogs 🙄 I am also slightly obsessed with nails which is weird fact you probably don't know about me 😆 and a beautifully manicured set of nails 💅 is usually the first thing I will notice about a person!

On my page you will find lots of tips to help you with your Instagram account, so if you are new here then have a browse 👀 First and foremost that is my aim, to help reduce the overwhelm people feel around running a social media account for their business, and there are several ways I can support you in that from fully managed services to power hours where I support you to do it yourself, to handy hints and free education via my page 🧚‍♀️

I have a confession to make……

Hi 👋 I am back from my holiday but since I got back life has been a whirlwind 🌪️

🌪️ my NHS job is crazy busy
🌪️ I have been working on the on-boarding process for a lovely new client 🥰 and client content for my existing lovelies 🩷
🌪️ lots going on at home including some home improvements 😬

All this has left me little time and headspace for my own socials 😬 I wish I had a social media manager 🤪 is a true statement 🤣

Sometimes life life’s and we all have to prioritise, and let’s be totally real for a second, social media is low priority at these times for us all, experts included 🙋🏼‍♀️

But when you have a social media manager that’s something you never have to worry about! In the last month one of my clients has had yard moves, weddings and lord knows what else but her business is still being promoted and her social media presence is unaffected because she has me 🧚🏻‍♀️ and I take care of it all for her, because she is one of my priorities 🩷 ….. right now I wish I had a social media fairy 🧚🏻‍♀️ godmother too 🤣

If not now, WHEN?

Last week my partner and I experienced one of those life situations that shakes you to the core and makes you realise just how short life is.

We spend so much time procrastinating, making excuses and putting things off. That's fine if it's something that you couldn't care less about 😂 but if it's your dream, then I ask you again, if not now, WHEN are you going to go for it? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I get it, being a business owner is so tough, wearing all the hats from CEO to content creator and social media manager to book keeper! Oh then add adulting into the mix (housework, shopping, being sociable and exercising), then there's mum life, horse and dog mum life..... the list is endless!

Social Media Marketing doesn't work 🙅🏼‍♀️

😂🤣🤪 Just kidding!!

swipe 👉🏻 to see how I have used Instagram for some of my most recent purchases. But I use it ALL the time. I come across new brands, see new clothing and head to the company's website to order, I ask for recommendations - I found Bee's osteopath on IG.

Let me ask you a question 🙋🏼‍♀️ think back to your last 5 purchases - not routine things 🙄 but something that you perhaps spotted and bought on a whim or you were looking for something specific, and how many of those things did you actually see on a social media platform?

If you are still to really get a grip on using social media for your business you are missing out. The best time to start was 5 years ago, the 2nd best time is now. Digital marketing is getting bigger and bigger. Don't get left behind 🥴

This actually happened ......and it was all about £35 🤯

People get very upset about having to pay for things that they feel they are not getting any value from. This is usually nothing to do with you and EVERYTHING to do with them.

For £35 you could back down, especially when you are dealing with someone whose behaviour is getting a bit nasty. However, if you have clear T&Cs and that person has agreed to them, then the moral thing for them to do is to have the integrity to pay the fee.

🧚‍♀️ How much work went into the communication between you?
🧚‍♀️ How much work will go into processing the cancellation?
🧚‍♀️ How much time will go into contacting other potential delegates from your wait list or re-marketing the place?

Your time is valuable. Your business pays your bills and compensates you for the time that you are putting in. If someone else cannot respect that, it says a lot about them and their own beliefs about the value of others. Sorry not sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️

I will add that there are of course exceptions that need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but these are usually just that, exceptions.

Respect your time. Respect your boundaries girls 🩷

and remember, if dealing with this sort of thing leaves you feeling cold or you just don’t have the time for that type if crap 💩 then you might want to consider outsourcing to someone who has 8 years + experience of dealing with course delegates and attendees. What I won't 🙅🏼‍♀️do when you choose to work with me 🧚‍♀️

If you tuned in to the The Equestrian Business podcast episode last week, you will have heard Rhiannon ask why should you work with me? So, here are a few reasons why you should:

🧚‍♀️ I hear so many horror stories of businesses signing into long contacts that don't deliver and that they cannot get out of. I will never ask you to sign up for more than 3 months when you choose to work with me and I can justify why I have a 3 month sign up very fairly and reasonably. Most of my clients choose to stay beyond that but there is no requirement to!

🧚‍♀️ I also hear terrors of SMM ignoring their clients feelings and opinions. Not with me 🙅🏼‍♀️ I advise and suggest but if you hate an idea, we don't run with it. It's your social media page and your business 🩷

🧚‍♀️ I also hear horrors of people paying for a service they don't receive. I do what I say I am going to do and if there is a problem it is always communicated with a solution.

🧚‍♀️ NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE can guarantee you certain results on your social media accounts. If someone promises viral content and exponential growth... run for the hills.

🧚‍♀️ Communication and good client relationships is at the heart of my brands ethos and my clients happiness is VERY important to me (feel free to ask any of my clients!) So I will never make you feel like you are not a priority for my business, my business is centered around you 🩷

Pinterest doesn’t need you to spend time on engagement 🙌🏻 Now, I am not antisocial (most of the time anyway 🤭) but as a busy business woman myself I know that it’s not always easy to find the time to engage on multiple platforms and as one business owner friend once said to me, sometimes you just don’t have the energy for it.
