Antonio Dayyani Musik's interpretation of the traditional Swedish/Nordic folk song 'Vem kan segla förutan vind?' (Who can sail without the wind?) is the second single from his upcoming album 'Trop Op', and will be released on Friday 28th of June! https://orcd.co/antonio_dayyani-vem_kan_segla_forutan_vind
Referring to both the song and the album as such, Dayyani himself says:
"“I’m completely in love with the message of the lyrics in this tune. Nobody’s able to sail without the wind, or as I understand it: we need each other. That’s what we’re trying to communicate without words here, and that’s also why I wanted it to be part of this album, because the album itself is a celebration of/dedication to all our human communities.”
Antonio Dayyani Sextet (Antonio Dayyani (drums), Cahlo Heyman Krill (guitars), Magnus Munk Tækker (pedal steel), Andrea Maagaard (piano), Harald Hagelskjær (double bass), Jon Askjær (trumpet, flugelhorn)) play July 10th at H15 SCENE (Copenhagen Jazz Festival) and July 13th at HeadQuarters (Aarhus Jazz Festival)!

Jazz Views, UK has reviewed Christian Holm-Svendsen's debut album 'Totem' which ends with the words:
"I have tried making comparisons to who Christian Holm-Svendsen sounds like. I hear glimpses of Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, even the quieter moments from Dexter Gordon, but, none of that really matters. He already has his own voice. I think it will be amazing to hear what he gives us in the future." (Thanks Tim Larsen🙏) https://jazzviews.net/christian-holm-svendsen-with-daniel-sommer-mariusz-prasniewski-totem/

“Jobarteh and Pasborg travel like brothers in a jubilant union of extremes and explosive, instant composition... This is conversation, challenge and kinship in music at its best” - David Fricke, USA 🙏
"Now these two contemporary masters of a new millennium, Dawda Jobarteh and Stefan Pasborg, lets North and South meet in a rare sort of alchemy, which was born and blended in Denmark and played out Live at a Finnish festival.
It is bold and fresh and bound to take you on a trip."
Torben Holleufer, DK 🙏
Dawda Jobarteh / Stefan Pasborg - Duo second release show for their album 'Live in Turku' will take place at Erlings Jazz- & Ølbar, Aarhus on Wednesday, June 5th!

The song reflects the tranquility the place gives!
And thanks to:
Mads Mølgaard Helbæk for the recordings and mix!
John Fomsgaard at Karmacrew for the mastering!
Martin Aalykke Kristensen / Can Family for the artwork!

It's almost a year since Cecilie Strange' last album 'Beyond' was released. An album which received a Presto Music award as the Jazz recording of the year 2023, and was nominated to a Danish Music Award as the Jazz release of the year. Strange also received a nomination as the Jazz composer of the year 2023! https://orcd.co/cecilie_strange-beyond
The Danish summer festival season is coming up and the first bigger one is Jelling Musikfestival. It's not a jazz festival, but Jelling is the town where Cecilie grew up, so a very nice way to pay tribute to her.
During Copenhagen Jazz Festival Cecilie will do her own headliner show in front of Den Sorte Diamant - Det Kgl. Bibliotek, but can also be experienced as part of TINGO - Kvartetten fra Verdens Ende and as co-star at Rumpistol and Emil de Waal+ shows!
1st of August Cecilie Strange will perform at Ærø Jazz Festival.
Refering to the title, the timing could have been better, because in Scandinavia we're experience the most wonderful sunny days at the moment. Weather forecast says heavy rain the night before the release though, Friday 24th of May!
Anyway, 'Regnvejrssang' was composed by Hans Henrik Ley to the Danish cartoon Cirkeline in the 1970ies and originally sung by children. But in this version de Waal focus on the melancholy underneath and let Fredrik Lundin play the beautiful melody on his bass flute (not the sax on the picture) accompanied by his whiskers.
Album release will be 5th of July and be prepared for a bigger release event during Copenhagen Jazz Festival!
21/05/2024
A few weeks ago, composer and drummer Antonio Dayyani Musik agreed with April Records that they would release his and his sextet' new album!
The first single from the album 'Stjerner over Vercors' (Stars above the Vercors) will be released Friday 24th of May. https://orcd.co/antonio_dayyani-stjerner_over_vercors
The song is written by Dayyani during a Workaway-stay in the middle of the Vercors mountains in France, and he says: “Every night there was this tremendous number of stars above the rock-formations, and it was such a beautiful view that will never leave my memory. I think we managed to capture some of that scenery in this song.”
The sextet:
Antonio Dayyani: Drums
Cahlo Heyman Krill: Guitars
Magnus Munk Tækker: Pedal Steel
Andrea Maagaard: Piano
Harald Hagelskjær: Double Bass
Jon Askjær: Trumpet, Flugelhorn
The album is set for release September 2024.

Jazznyt.blogspot.com, DK about the new Lis Wessberg album 'Twain Walking':
"Twain Walking er et album, der ikke minder om noget andet i dansk jazz. Wessbergs originale take på jazz, rock, ambient og elektronik er er fedt bekendtskab." 🙏
(Twain Walking is an album that is unlike anything else in Danish jazz. Wessberg's original take on jazz, rock, ambient and electronica is a cool acquaintance) https://jazznyt.blogspot.com/2024/05/lis-wessberg-twain-walking-april.html?
Album der Woche bei Jazz-fun.de:
Arild Andersen / Daniel Sommer /Rob Luft 'As Time Passes'!
" jazz-fun`s recap:
Wunderbare, emotionale Musik!" 🙏 https://www.jazz-fun.de/arild-andersen-daniel-sommer-rob-luft-as-time-passes.html?
We are pleased and proud to announce that we have teamed up with Oilly Wallace (saxophone) and Johannes Blöndal Wamberg (guitar)! New material and recordings will be announced shortly😀
Every Sunday for the next 6 weeks we will be sharing a video from the Live Album.
The first one is 'Both Sides'
Vitality and apathy, firmness and softness, the unnoticeable duality of lived life. 'Both Sides' articulates a quarrel of two opposing sides, a deep melody contrasting a forcefull ostinato in the piano. Soft bass improvisation in 6/8 offers a soothing but firm argument to the energetic thoughtful statements in 7/8 from the piano. In the end, all things must acknowledge compromise to coexist.

About April Records
One of Denmark’s leading and pioneering electronic labels, April Records, started out in ’94 to release the first album in the “Boredom Is Deep And Mysterious” compilation series. The series, which amounted to three albums, was supervised, and for the better part produced, by what would soon become the label’s flagship, Future 3. In the beginning, Anders Remmer aka Dub Tractor, Thomas Knak aka Op**te, and Jesper Skaaning aka Acusticwould form the nucleus of the label with releases both as Future 3 and with their respective solo projects, along with Remmer’s old colleague from How Do I, Peter Fjeldberg’s Double Muffled Dolphin. Sponsoring for a lot of the early releases came from the release of the ‘Dark And Long’ cd, compiling Underworld12”s. This release was exclusive for the Scandinavian market.
April Records quickly gained the position as the leading Danish record label for electronic music in the 90s, where in addition to albums with Future 3, Double Muffled Dolphinand Bjørn Svin, the company released albums with Acustic, Op**te, Swimwear Catalogue, Mnemonic, Jet (Anders Remmer), DJ 360, Cai Bøjsen-Møller, Tokyo Combo, B9 and Hüebsch Originators. April Records also made international appearances with releases from foreign artists such as Sonic Voyagers (Australia), Xjacks (Spain / Germany), Håkan Lidbo (Sweden), Magick A (Norway), YMC (Sweden), Biosphere(Norway) and Time of Madness (Norway).
In the 90's the company also started April Club with regular events at Stengade 30 in Copenhagen and ICA In London, plus one-off events in Gothenburg, Manchester, Oslo and Hamburg.
April Records tried a wide range of electronic music sub genres, so genuinely excited releases through the 90s over ambient, house, drum'n'bass, big beat and techno.
Up until the late '90s and early' 00s, April Records began moving away from pure electronic music and the company began to get a slightly more jazzy profile.
In 1998, April Records, in collaboration with the Danish Jazz Federation, released the double CD "All That Jazz - The Remix Project", where one CD contained tracks with Danish jazz artists and the other CD contained versions of the same tracks, here remixed by people from the electronic scene.
The late '90s and early 00s were the time when Easy Listening got hot, Latin got a boom and Nu-Jazz was the new variety. It also made its mark on the releases released during that period on April Records, with Lindberg Hemmer Foundation (Fatman and Dan Hemmer), Blue Foundation, Jol (Sweden), Pornorama, Malkin Zany, Alex Puddu and The Butterfly Collectors, Carla Alexandar and the Nu-Jazz compilation "Companionship".
After the release of Carla Alexandar's album "Sambamuffin" in 2006, the air went off the balloon. Electronica, Nu-Jazz, Latin and easy listening were no longer marketable. Now it was called electro, German minimal techno, and the scene started to get more and more fragmented.
But now after 14 years since the release of the last April Records album, it’s finally time to open the book again…
