Numbers haven’t dramatically risen (according to DOH) but we know people aren’t reporting. I’m hearing of a lot of cases. Immune boost and wear a mask to dodge all the respiratory viruses out there.

BQ1.1 is now prevalent in the US and here in Hawai‘i. This report is lagged so the numbers are likely to be about 8-10% higher right now. Reported symptoms seem to be more throat than chest.

“Kilauea is no longer erupting,” the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said in a statement Tuesday, followed by a separate one saying, “Mauna Loa is no longer erupting.”

“Spots of incandescence may remain near the vent, along channels, and at the flow front for days or weeks as the lava flows cool,” the observatory's activity summary said. “However, eruptive activity is not expected to return based on past eruptive behavior.”

Lava supply to Kilauea's Halemaʻumaʻu lava lake ceased on Friday, the observatory said: “Potential remains for resumption of this eruption or initiation of a new eruption at or near the summit of Kilauea.”

The observatory will continue monitoring the volcanoes for signs of renewed activity. USGS scientists and Hawaii County officials were scheduled to hold a briefing Tuesday.

Yes, you saw it right -- alert levels for BOTH Mauna Loa and Kīlauea were lowered this morning. Neither volcano is erupting right now, and gas emissions are at near-background levels, although HVO volcanologists remain vigilant for changes that might indicate renewed activity.

Also, still annoyed that prices are highest in the nation. We’re not proportionally dropping at the same rate as other states. Hope this helps. 🤙🏽

Effective immediately, due to continuing volcanic activity on Mauna Loa, DOFAW has closed all hunting in the portion of Unit A of the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve and Game Management Area South of Daniel K. Inouye Highway across from the Gil Kahele Recreation Area.

HNN 1pm press conference highlights:

By midday, it appeared the eruption had shifted to the northeast rift zone, a positive development for communities in the southwestern rift zone (including Pahala, Naalehu, Ocean View, Captain Cook and Keauhou).

“Nobody is in danger at this time. We’re not evacuating anybody,” said Hawaii Island Mayor Mitch Roth.

“Our team is on full alert and is prepared to respond to whatever situation may arise as a result of the Mauna Loa eruption,” said Hawaii Island Mayor Mitch Roth. “That said, we’ve been told that the lava is heading in the best possible direction, which is away from our communities.”

I looked up these on Home Depot and they have them in stock. It takes 15 minutes to build one. Basically just taping it up. Easy and simple solution for air filtration. They have been used in wildfires and for allergies and recently schools have built them for covid. I went shopping at 3 huge stores here in Hawai‘i and no one wiped down the counters, monitored occupancy or they didn’t have the social distancing stickers placed back on the floors.
