Elon Musk has just purchased 9.2% of Twitter stock, according to a filing today (Monday), making him the largest individual shareholder in the company.

Last month, Elon tweeted:“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?"

Will Musk attempt to force change at Twitter with his fresh ownership into the company?

Bored Ape 835, worth at minimum 106 ETH ($350,000 USD - the floor price of the collection) - was accidentally sold for $115 USD.

The owner accepted an offer of 115 DAI ($115) - believing it was an offer of 115 ETH.

The same owner also sold Mutant Ape 11670 for 25 DAI ($25) to the same buyer. The floor price for mutant apes is 22.6 ETH ($76,000).

It's also possible that the seller had their account compromised. A BAYC member tweeted that he had contacted the seller - and that he was not aware of the sales.

Two men allegedly behind the "Frosties" non-fungible token (NFT) project, an infamous scam whose Discord server reportedly evaporated hours after mint, were charged Thursday with money laundering and wire fraud by U.S. prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.

It's an early example of U.S. law enforcement prosecuting an alleged NFT "rug pull."
Ethan Nguyen and Andre Llacuna, who prosecutors say are Frosties's pseudonymous backers, defrauded their NFT investors of over $1 million when theft. Facing criminal conspiracy and financial crime charges, they are among the first criminal NFT defendants in the rug-pull era.

Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that digital collectibles would be arriving on Instagram “in the near term.”

“We're working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term," he said. He didn’t detail exactly how that would take shape, but suggested people would be able to show off their existing NFTs and potentially mint new ones. "I'm not ready to kind of announce exactly what that's going to be today. But over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment.”

Yuga Labs now controls three of the most valuable NFT collections on the market

Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape Yacht Club, announced today that it had acquired CryptoPunks and Meebits from Larva Labs. CryptoPunks is one of the oldest and most valuable brands in the NFT world, and Meebits quickly joined the list of most valuable NFT collections after launching last May.

Yuga Labs hopes to foster a “community of builders” creating derivative works around the two projects. To do that, it plans to grant intellectual property and commercialization rights to CryptoPunks and Meebits owners, allowing them to create works and products based off their NFTs the same way that Bored Ape owners have.

LimeWire, the defunct file-sharing website, is set to make a comeback.

The service was shut down back in 2010, after a lengthy legal battle with the Recording Industry Association of America over allegations of music piracy.

More than a decade since it closed down, LimeWire is making a comeback — but with a twist.

The service will relaunch in May as a marketplace for trading nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, digital assets that keep a record of ownership for virtual items on the blockchain.

Beeple became the third-most expensive living artist after his NFT Everydays: The First 5,000 Days sold for $69.3 million at a Christie’s auction in early 2021. Despite having made such an impressive splash, Beeple hasn’t had a gallery show until now, with his first exhibition of the sort, “Uncertain Futures,” having opened on Thursday at Jack Hanley Gallery in New York.

Present at the show were artists like Cindy Sherman (whose partner is dealer Jack Hanley), Peter Saul, Sally Saul, and Tom Sachs; art critic Jerry Saltz; White Columns director Matthew Higgs; NADA director Heather Hubbs; Pioneer Works artistic director Gabriel Florenz; and Loïc Gouzer, who organized the Beeple sale at Christie’s before leaving to start his own NFT startup. Other VIPs in attendance include film director Darren Aronosky and Elon Musk’s mother and brother. Apparently, the Musk family is a big supporter of Beeple, and the Tesla founder’s immediate relatives were also at the dinner held for the artist at Frenchette.

Tracey Ryans, an arts consultant who went to that event, said, “People kept saying this is a parallel world, but there were all of these art world luminaries there. It definitely wasn’t a parallel world!”

Pixelmon has become the laughing stock of crypto Twitter after raising $70M USD to deliver what was promised to be “the largest and highest quality game the NFT space has ever seen," only to deliver disappointing in-game art. Pixelmon founder Syber, who was revealed to be a 19-year-old New Zealand streamer with no relevant game development experience, promised to build a AAA-quality Web3 game that involves catching and trading Pixelmon creatures.

Users paid 3 ETH (~$9,200) to mint a Pixelmon, and the floor has now dropped to around 0.4 ETH.

Allegations are that the Pixelmon team just bought the art off Unity marketplace.

15/02/2022

LONDON — Britain's tax watchdog has seized three non-fungible tokens, in what is thought to be the first seizure of NFTs by a U.K. law enforcement agency.

Officials at Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs say they seized the NFTs during an investigation into a suspected value-added tax (VAT) fraud case worth £1.4 million ($1.9 million). Three suspects have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to defraud the taxman.

The suspects allegedly tried to claim back more VAT, which is a type of sales tax, than what they were owed, using a mix of stolen identities, unregistered phones and false invoices to hide their identities. The scheme involved 250 alleged fake companies, according to HMRC.

"Our first seizure of a Non-Fungible Token serves as a warning to anyone who thinks they can use cryptoassets to hide money from HMRC," Nick Sharp, HMRC's deputy director of economic crime, said in a statement Monday.

26/01/2022

YouTube NFTs may be in the works. In a letter published today, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki suggested the company is looking to branch into NFTs in the future as another source of revenue for creators.

“We’re always focused on expanding the YouTube ecosystem to help creators capitalize on emerging technologies, including things like NFTs, while continuing to strengthen and enhance the experiences creators and fans have on YouTube,” the letter reads.

The detail was part of Wojcicki’s latest letter to the YouTube community, which outlines areas the company plans to invest in, like gaming and shopping, and how it plans to support creators. Wojcicki said YouTube is looking to Web3 “as a source of inspiration,” specifically noting the opportunities with crypto, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and NFTs.

YouTube’s hints at possible NFTs are in line with other platforms that have recently rolled out their own versions or are rumored to be considering an NFT feature. Twitter now offers a way for users who own a special JPEG to “show off your prized possessions” via a hexagonal profile picture. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, is said to be preparing something similar where users can display the tokens they own. A marketplace for NFTs is also reportedly in the works.

Last year, China’s government banned cryptocurrency trading and mining in one of the world’s most intense crackdowns. But China’s government is pursuing other uses of blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs)—as long as the technology stays under its control.
