Happy 2025!

I know I've been quiet; I've been healing from an injury (and, as you'll hear in this video, a cold) - and using that time to focus on how I can continue to serve this community meaningfully. I've had some insightful conversations, and the votes are in!

Watch the video to discover what's next for AD. I'll still be talking to creators, but I'm building the platform to provide tools that empower you to make confident decisions about your show and audience growth.

This one is finally out! I'm excited to welcome to . She co-founded BreatheUni and is an award-winning advocate focusing on mental health and Racial Equity. And all of this started when she launched a podcast with her brother during the pandemic.

It's hard to believe this is the same woman who told me she didn't believe in herself as a teenager. If you're wondering if or how to take those next steps to create meaningful content or need inspiration to break out of -- whatever is holding you back, tune into this conversation.

And let's follow her work and drive change by supporting content focused on doing good.

The fact that talked to Black women and girls even as some mainstream media outlets actively ignored her during the press blitz is a beautiful thing. She wanted to connect with people she understood had been othered and treated like the character she plays in .

Of course, she didn't want the pain of being ignored. Like many of us in the UK and across the Black diaspora, she grew up knowing she didn't' fit, didn't' feel wanted or safe, and could be vilified for speaking up. But none of that distracted her. She invested her energy and emotions in that moment and her primary audience. It was a place of safety and empowerment.

This week, host Chris Nsiah reflects on the creator interviews that have shaped her 2024 learning journey. The ones who are also using their creativity to change hearts and minds.

Here's what author and football (ok, fine, soccer) player Channing Chasten told me on this week's episode of AudioDiaspora:

"There are times when I get disheartened, but I don't let myself dwell in that place for too long…I still get those feelings, but I like to limit those feelings for a certain amount of time, then move on and figure out how I can use those feelings, or what I'm feeling, to propel myself to be a better version of myself, and use it as motivation to reach that goal."

When I tell you those words just 'hit different' last week.

Whew.

Here's where Channing's words took me: I was also considering the role of AudioDiaspora in the evolving landscape of creators and 'news influencers' after hearing a few media watchers call the 2024 US presidential election "the podcast election."

Now, we won't fully understand the impact of podcasting on this election for a while, but the fact that the leading Presidential candidates understood the importance of speaking on those platforms speaks to the cultural sway of the shows - and the form as a whole. This influence extends beyond just ; creators in different media types are also part of the national conversation.

This made me think more about why voice matters in national and global conversations. And how, for close to five years, AudioDiaspora has been amplifying creators who share that enrich our understanding of the world. They also fill the gaps in our collective histories and create the . Two examples come to mine - the work of 'Island Girls Rock' around Britain's scandal and the powerful conversations the mixed-media artist HAUI has inspired in Canada.

I've also partnered to create opportunity pipelines and shared insights as a leader in the audio space. I look forward to doing more of this in 2025.

If you share my vision, why don't you join me.

What's on our mind, Facebook? Funny you should ask! The latest episode of AudioDiaspora, hosted by Chris Nsiah, featuring the and is on our mind.

In this laughter-filled episode of AudioDiaspora, British-Nigerian actor and writer Nikki Fagbemi speaks about her breakthrough role in Russell T Davies' series "Banana" and her unique brand of dark comedy rooted in personal experiences. She also discusses her acclaimed short film "Why Me?" and offers advice on embracing criticism and tackling deeply personal subjects in creative work.

When the writer (reluctantly) shared her private jokes and experiences, they took on a new, inspiring power.

My curiosity drives my work to support creators, whether coaching them, building systems to help them, or teaching. I'm a perpetual four-year-old - my kids (aged 9 and 11) would agree.

My curiosity helps me embrace change and gives me the perspective to help my clients cut through the noise.

But that curiosity requires honesty, no matter how hard it might feel. This week's guest, Nana-Ama Danquah, commits to honesty in her creative process.

From writing her groundbreaking book 'Willow Weep for Me' - now 25 years old, to taking on a potentially controversial job to make ends meet - and then writing about it, Nana-Ama has used her writing to connect communities and help others heal.

She's also the queen at sharing hilarious anecdotes with a message. You'll understand what I mean when you listen to my conversation with her!
