Continuing Kyushu trip Day 4 (part 2):

Drove to our Next stop, Amanoiwato Jinja. A short walk down the road from the shrine is a path that leads down the river to a simple cave shrine ‘Amano yasukawara’.
Along this path there are little piles of stones stacked along the river by previous visitors to mark their pilgrimage.

Continuing…. Kyushu trip Day 4: Mount A*o 阿蘇山 and Kusasenri

Started the day quite early and headed towards Mount A*o (largest active volcano in Japan)

Our first pitstop was at Kusasenri, a picturesque grassland with rolling hills, wildflowers and scenic vistas. This place is popular for horseback riding and relaxed hot springs (onsen)

We then proceeded to see our life’s first active volcano A*osan in the A*o-Kuju National Park. Massive plumes of steam constantly keep rising from the crater. Hence people with asthma, heart conditions and pregnant ladies are prohibited from accessing the crater region.

There are multiple concrete shelters to escape to in case of any eruption. Check the volcanic activity and weather forecast before visiting as the access to the crater will be restricted in case of higher level of volcanic activity.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SHINKANSEN IN JAPAN Taking the Shinkansen is a must do experience when you are in Japan 🇯🇵 We took the Nozomi Shinkansen from Nagoya to Hiroshima ⚪️ You can book tickets from any of the major JR stations or the SmartEx/Klook app. Do book your tickets in advance if you are carrying oversized luggage ⚪️ Seat reservation is charged separately im addition to the ticket fare ⚪️ The ordinary car has a 3+2 seating arrangement.
