Kris & Bimby TV Praises La Union
By: Dunkin Lee H. Gaerlan PITO, La Union

As part of Kris & Bimby TV’s Northern Adventure, Ms. Kris Aquino, The Philippine “Queen of All Media,” returned to La Union to check out the vineyard at Lomboy Farms in Bauang, La Union and the Sugarcane Wine and Vinegar Processing Plant at the Naguilian Agricultural Complex. She was joined by her guest co-host Karla Estrada.

In the 1st episode aired June 2, hard rains did not stop Ms. Aquino from visiting Lomboy Farms which she also visited last year. She also admired the crocheted placemats, table runners, water bottle holders, throw pillow cases made by and benefiting 100 women and their families in the community. The group also tried Pick & Pay fruits on siniguelas, bayabas, santol, papaya, apple mangoes and dragon fruits. Delicious delicacies and Pinoy kakanin were also served for tasting. Kris and Karla can’t get enough of the creamy and sugary fluffy cream puffs from Café Esperanza.

The 2nd episode aired June 3, the Presidential sister explored the Sugarcane Wine and Vinegar Processing at the Naguilian Agricultural Complex where she’s able to witness how locals make all-natural sugarcane vinegar with the help of Mr. Dominador Pulmano, Basi Technologist.

“Ang napaka sarap at nag iisang Basi, dito lang sa Naguilian,” remarked Ms. Aquino who bought 25 gallons of vinegar and told everyone how this can give flavor to the food. She further remarked that no one can beat the unique taste of the Naguilian Basi Wine since it is organic and extracted from and carefully fermented for about six to 12 months. It has a sweet aroma and smooth taste. Afterwards, The Kris & Bimby TV team headed back to Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa, San Juan La Union to cook Ilokano cuisines the restaurant offers such as the Kilawing Bangus and Pakbet.

The TV show is aired at ABS-CBN from Mondays to Fridays at 8:00 am.

Pinoy Mountaineer

Think of these beautiful birds in Pico de Loro before you leave your trash in the mountains. Even the smallest wrappers or bits of plastic can choke birds and other wildlife if they swallow tiny pieces of garbage...and that's just one of the many ways garbage can damage the mountains’ precarious ecosystems. Loud noises and going off-trail are other ways to disrupt the ways of life in the forest. Enjoying the mountains is a privilege that comes with a responsibility to protect the environment, and we must begin by consciously striving to minimise our impact whenever we’re outdoors and inspiring others to do the same.
