Fact-checking organizations, including PRNigeria, have found that Chikumbutso's "self-powered" car is actually a commercially available electric vehicle, the Kaiyi X3 Pro, powered by a lithium-ion phosphate battery. Additionally, the so-called hypersonic energy device he showcased was identified as a commercially available product, not a groundbreaking invention. These findings suggest that Chikumbutso misrepresented existing technologies as his own innovations .

While Chikumbutso's claims have attracted attention, they have also faced significant scrutiny. Critics argue that his technology violates fundamental laws of physics, particularly the laws of thermodynamics. Attempts to patent his technology have been rejected on these grounds, leading Chikumbutso to treat his invention as a trade secret .
