This old lady loves near the manikarnika ghat in Varanasi. Every morning, this old lady makes her way to Manikarnika Ghat, her presence as constant as the flow of the Ganges beside her. Draped in a simple white sari, she carries a modest basket filled with grains and pieces of bread. Her day begins with prayers, whispered in reverence to the sacred river, as the first rays of sunlight cast a golden hue over the ghat. After her prayers, she feeds the birds that flock to her feet and the stray dogs that gather around, their eyes full of gratitude. In this sacred place, her gentle routine is a testament to the enduring spirit of devotion and compassion.

"Where spirituality meets spectacle: Capturing the essence of the Kumbh Festival."
The Kumbh Mela is a significant Hindu pilgrimage that takes place at four different locations in India: Haridwar, Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Nashik, and Ujjain. It is based on the belief in Hindu mythology that during a celestial event called the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), a few drops of the nectar of immortality fell on these four places, making them sacred.

The Kumbh Mela is organized periodically at these locations, rotating between them every few years, to commemorate this mythological event. It is believed that taking a dip in the holy waters during the Kumbh Mela cleanses sins and leads to spiritual enlightenment.

This Carl Zeiss 1860 box camera was passed down to Tikam Chandi ji through generations. It was originally gifted to his grandfather, Pahari Lal, by a Maharaja of Jaipur. At that time, Pahari Lal
 served as the King's official photographer. Thus, photography runs deep in Tikam Chand ji's family, making him part of an ancestral lineage of skilled photographers.
