The impact of the Dawn Raids are still felt today, and it feels like subsequent Governments since Kirk and Muldoon have ignored it even happening.

The amazing people at Pacific Aotearoa as well as Rotuman Community Leaders have set the theme for Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta - Rotuman Language Week 2021: Tutur häk ne måür lelei – the four pillars of life and wellbeing.

According to Ministry for Pacific Peoples the four pillars acknowledge and celebrate the strength and resilience of our Pacific communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme is also in reference to a traditional Rī Fak Rotuam or traditional Rotuman house that requires four pillars to hold it together, like our wellbeing 🔥

Last week marked 49 years since the beginning of the Polynesian Panthers. We look towards the 50th Anniversary next year.

With all that's going on in the world in 2020, we can only imagine what it was like for them back in 1970s with the dawn raids, racist Police, and supporting Ngā Tamatoa especially with Bastion Point. These are the shoulders of giants we stand on today to fight for Ihumātao, Black Lives Matter and to Disarm Police here in Aotearoa. These are our tupuna, and we will forever be grateful for all you've done.
