A development project initiated in 1960, Cleveland's Erieview Plaza remains a notorious failure, so much so that the architectural critic Ada Louise Huxtable described it as a "monument to everything that was wrong with urban renewal thinking in America in the 1960s." The effort was slow moving, and empty lots left by razed buildings created a foreboding environment that Peter van Dijk referred to as "Hiroshima Flats."

MEDIA MELTDOWN 2023: "Have something close to what I would call a panic attack after being bombarded by all the advertising. A bad start to a bad year. Feel oppressed and dehumanized. AMC intro has Nicole Kidman waxing saccharine on the “magic” of movies. Laugh out loud, but also agree with it, which makes it worse. Something important and real to me being exploited, cheapened, and commodified and no one there to feel humiliated by it but me. Advertising is becoming increasingly dangerous to my mental stability, and I start to lose it in the theater."
