DISPUTE OVER QUARRY
#BREAKING - A multi-million dollar investment is under threat as the National People's Cooperative Bank (National PC Bank) is said to be moving to take over a quarry in Bog Walk, St Catherine.
The property is owned by Ramon Morrison of Morrison Construction Equipment and Quarry.
The bank is said to have placed the business into receivership, citing issues regarding repayment of a loan secured by Morrison.
But Morrison has denied being a delinquent borrower, and is accusing the financial institution of being unjust.
Both parties had agreed to have the matter go to arbitration in an attempt to reach an amicable solution, Morrison claimed.
But he is now accusing the bank of reneging on its promise and closing down the operation.
The financial institution served a notice on November 18 this year, ordering Morrison to "cease and desist all operations, and all personnel are required to retrieve their personal belongings and exit the property" by 7AM the following day, November 19.
Morrison lamented: "They gave me a progress report and told me what to do, and I do actually everything they said on the progress report and they just turned back on me like that.
"The worse thing about it is that it is a government-run institution and I am a son of the soil born here and they are dealing with me like that - very unjust and unfair... Five days after I paid the last payment, they put the receiver on the property. If that is not unjust, I don't know what is unjust," Morrison further said.
Nine jobs are being threatened.
Morrison told Saint Catherine SUN that he has lost millions as a result of the bank's action.
He said he initially invested in excess of $70 million into the project and has been operating the plant for nearly 10 years.
We are trying to get a response from the financial institution.
