In 𝗣𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗺 𝟯𝟰 David chooses to 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙤𝙡 and 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙨𝙚 God while is on the run from Saul. At the point of this Psalm’s inception, David was literally acting insane in order to draw mercy from his enemies and escape death. 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯? It is because David felt 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙙 by God. He had 𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 of God and he knew that even though he was afflicted, God had heard his cries and that means, God was working out good.

OUR FINAL EPISODE OF DEVOTIONALS

God is 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙛𝙪𝙡 and God 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨. These are two commonly known attributes of God’s character. #𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅? What is the blessed life? What is the #𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚? Is it to live in abundance? Without lack? With great fame and fortune? In Psalm 32, David 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩. For him, the blessed life was the forgiven life. One where God had forgiven and covered the transgressions of an individual. Does doubt fill you when you find yourself in the midst of a difficult situation after following God? Do you wonder whether he really led you or you were somehow deceived into the trouble you now face? Psalm 31 is a beautiful example of how David reminded himself of who God was and what he had done for him, even in the midst of an attack from his foes. His defiance in choosing to worship God, remember His deeds and trust in Him, rather than submitting to his own thoughts of fear and doubt, is a posture that we can all learn from and emulate.

Moments come in life; bad ones, good ones, hard ones, sweet ones. It’s never the ones we enjoy that we have a problem with, it’s the ones that are difficult. In those difficult moments Scripture asks us to have an eternal mindset. To evaluate what’s going on through the lens of what is to come. Only then can we find the kind of comfort God wants us to find in our difficult moments.

Have you ever been asked to praise God during a season of suffering and disappointment, when you felt like you were in a pit or you were at the end of your rope? How did you feel about that request?
