Nana Agradaa granted 50k bail

Founder of Heavenway Champion International Ministries, Evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, formerly known as Nana Agradaa, has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court.

Presiding Judge, Bright Acquah, during a hearing at the Accra Circuit Court 9, on Monday, admitted the accused to a bail amount of GHC50,000 with three sureties.

The sureties according to the court ought to be civil servants earning not less than ¢2,000 a month.

As part of her bail conditions, Agradaa is supposed to report to the police every Wednesday.

This comes after the court, over by Bright Acquah on Thursday, October 13, 2022, struck out a bail plea by her lawyer, Reynold Twumasi.

The case has since been adjourned to November 10, 2022.

Agradaa remains in police custody:

The accused person however is supposed to remain in police custody despite her bail grant by the Accra Circuit Court 9, pending a determination by the Circuit Court 10.

Patricia Oduro Koranteng (Agradaa) is before both courts over alleged scamming claims by her church members.

Whereas Circuit Court 9, presided over by Bright Acquah was originally sitting on the case, a new case was opened against her in Circuit Court 10 subsequently.

The Accra Circuit Court 9, where Agradaa is facing seven (7) counts of fraud charges, on October 13, refused her bail application and remanded her in custody for four days.

This was after the prosecution had admitted that there were thirty new witnesses whose statements they had to take.

The court which was sitting on her case for the second time, scheduled Agradaa’s next appearance for Monday, October 17, 2022.

However, Agradaa was put before the Accra Circuit Court 10 in the early hours of Friday, October 14, 2022, where six new counts of fraud were pressed against her.

During the hearing at Court 10, Agradaa was brought before the court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah to answer the six new charges emanating from the statements of six persons who were victims of her alleged money-doubling scam.

Agradaa is said to have initially declined to give her plea when the charges were read because of the absence of her lawyer in court.

She, however, pleaded guilty to all six counts of fraud.
The presiding judge, therefore, ordered her remand for two weeks and adjourned the case to October 24, 2022.

During a court hearing today, October 17, 2022, Judge Bright Acquah who is in charge of Circuit Court 9 indicated that until Court 10 admits her bail plea, she remains in police custody despite having granted her bail under his ruling.

E/R: Galamsey pit collapses on illegal miners, one retrieved dead

At least three illegal miners are feared dead after an underground mining pit caved in on them at Akyem Twepiase near Kyebi in the Eastern region.

The exact number of trapped victims has not been established but sources say at least three people were in the pit when it collapsed.

One of the victims has been retrieved dead and deposited at the Kyebi government hospital morgue by a joint rescue team of police and residents.

A resident in the community told Starr News, the victims were young laborers from Northern Ghana hired by the owners of the illegal mining site who are from the community to work for them.

“They were doing down blow which is underground mining. This particular one is about twice two high tension poles deep. So because it rained the whole day yesterday, it caved on them. It is not clear the number of people trapped. So far, one person has been retrieved. All the owners of the site have run away. The victims are not Akyems they are northerners hired to work in the pit.”

The Akyem Abuakwa area is one of the areas in Ghana affected by the scourge of illegal mining.

The activities of the illegal miners continue to degrade the environment and pollute river bodies.

‘We have not signed Sulley Muntari – Asante Kotoko

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have denied reports that they have signed former Black Stars superstar Sulley Muntari, a top official of the Kumasi-based side has told Ghanasoccernet.com

The experienced midfielder Muntari was reported by a journalist on Tuesday night to have agreed to a contract with the Ghanaian champions ahead of their participation in the CAF Champions League.

Sheikh Tophic Sienu reported on his social media profile on Tuesday night that the former Inter Milan star has signed a two-year deal with the club after leaving arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

The ex-Ghana international was reported to have signed for another Ghana Premier League club after leaving giants Hearts of Oak at the end of the 2021/22 season.

However, the African giants have rubbished the report insisting they have not signed the former AC Milan midfielder, rejecting the claim that they have signed the former Ghana international.

“The story making rounds is false. We have not signed Sulley. I don’t honestly know where Sheikh got that info from,” a top official of Asante Kotoko, on the condition of anonymity, told Ghanasoccernet.com.

Muntari’s experience will be key for the Premier League kingpins in the CAF Champions League.

The 37-year-old proved his mettle in the games he featured for the Phobians and helped them to win the MTN FA Cup.

Council of State Member accused of corruption by Special Prosecutor speaks

Following the accusation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that Ms. Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh engaged in influence-peddling and allegedly used her position as a member of the Council of State and member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to get a favorable decision from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), which led to a reduction in the tax liabilities of Labianca Limited, she has responded and denied any wrongdoing.

Ms. Asomah-Hinneh has told Graphic Online that she did not engage in any wrongdoing and said she was not aware of the report of the OSP or its findings and would speak to it once she apprised herself of the facts from the management of Labianca Company Limited.

“I cannot give any comment because I have not seen any report from the Special Prosecutor. I do not even know that the report is out,” she told Graphic Online.

When asked if she was aware of any investigations by the OSP into her company, she answered in the affirmative.

On whether she was aware of the Special Prosecutor had directed Labianca Company Limited to pay the amount to the state, she said the management of the company usually dealt with those issues and she might not be immediately privy to any such payments, as she had
not been around.

“I have not been around, but the office is there and so next Monday or Tuesday I will call and ask them. It is the management so I will ask them, she added.

She indicated her readiness to grant a full interview to Graphic Online when she returned to Accra.

Petition

Ms. Asomah-Hinneh was re-elected as a member of the Council of State representing the Western Region for a second term last 2021.

She was a member of the Board of Directors of the GPHA from 2017 to 2021.

The OSP commenced investigations into Labianca Company Limited and the Customs Division following a petition filed by one Frank Asare on November 16, 2021, pursuant to Section 27(1) of the OSP Act, 2017 (Act 959).

Mr. Asare, in the petition, accused the Customs Division of the GRA and Labianca Company Limited of involvement in an alleged corrupt deal.

Income Tax (Amended) Bill, 2022 passed

Mr Kwaku Kwarteng, the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament moved for the adoption of the Income Tax (Amended) Bill, 2022 and was seconded by Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ranking Member of the Committee.

Among the objectives, the Bill would extend the concession for Income Tax Stamp and Vehicles Income Tax systems to the end of December 2022.

The Income Tax (Amended) Bill, 2022, which was first presented to Parliament and read for the first time on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, was referred to Mr. Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament for consideration and report by the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament.

However, the Finance Committee met and determined that the Bill was urgent and, therefore, certified that it ought to be taken through all the stages of passage in one day by Article 106 (13) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 119 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The Bill contains two clauses where clause 1 amends section 7 of the Act to provide for the exemption from Taxation of gains from the realisation of securities listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange up to December 31, 2006.

“Clause 2 amends the sixth schedule of Act 896 by providing for the suspension of quarterly income tax instalment payments for the seated categories of persons for the first, second, third and fourth quarters of 2022,” it said.

Mr Kwarteng told parliament that after careful consideration, the Committee was of the view that the Bill was in the right direction as it sought to make the Ghana Stock Exchange attractive and to further provide some relief to businesses and transport operators (Trotro drivers).

“Mr Speaker, the Committee, therefore, recommends to the House to adopt its Report and pass the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2022 by the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of the House,” he said.

The Committee also observed that as part of additional measures to provide some relief to the more vulnerable members of society, the government also suspended quarterly income tax instalments payments for small businesses using the Income Tax Stamp system and for trotro drivers using the Vehicle Income Tax System for the second, third and fourth quarters of 2021.

Parliament on Friday, July 22 also passed the Tax Exemptions Bill, 2022, to regulate the application of tax exemptions and other exemptions and to provide for related matters.

I never knew my son would be a great rapper like this – Sarkodie’s father speaks

Sarkodie’s father, Mr. Augustine Owusu Addo, has made some admissions regarding what he noticed in his son when he was little and the reasoning for his decision to name him Michael.

Some parents choose to name their children after a friend, a family member, a role model, or just someone they adore.

Mr. Owusu Addo said in a brief interview with Max24 TV monitored by Sarkodiegh.com that he didn’t realize Sarkodie would be as successful as he is currently with music when he was a little lad.

He continued by saying that because he was such a huge fan of the late American pop sensation Michael Jackson, he called his son Michael.

“As you are aware, Michael Owusu Addo is Sarkodie’s real name. I gave him the name Michael since I was a huge fan of Michael Jackson. He said to the host, “I didn’t realize he was going to be as great at music as he is now.

I never thought my son would be so great with music like this – Sarkodie’s father speaks

Mr. Owusu continued by saying he was unaware that Sarkodie would become a prominent musician and that he is now happy with how far he has advanced in the music industry.

“When he first started, I really asked him about it, and he said it was only a pastime. However, I soon noticed he continued, and now he is. I am overjoyed, and I hope he does even better.

When asked which of his son’s songs he liked best, he responded with “Brighter Day,” which included Obrafour.

In March 2022, Sherif released his most introspective song yet, “Kwaku The Traveller.” Cutting and poignant storytelling helped “Kwaku The Traveller” garner over 35 million streams on the platform, making it the most-streamed song of 2022 so far on Audiomack and Black Sherif’s biggest hit to date. He also received major acknowledgment from DJ Khaled, who posted the Ghanian artist’s latest single on his Instagram and heralded it as a “big chune.”

Popular Nollywood star, Hanks Anuku has disclosed to City FM Radio in Ghana that he allegedly infected his wife with HIV and slept with 80 women.

He said this happened when he left for Zambia without his family in 2011 to take part in plays teaching about HIV and AIDS.

“Life in Zambia was heaven on earth because we could enjoy life, moving in all places but I was missing my family. During that time, I had quite a several s*xual activities and I slept with different women. When I came back home, I never took care of the family. I started drinking and became an irresponsible husband, leaving the entire burden to my wife,” he said.

The actor who is also known for his criminal roles in Nigeria home movies said he is now a born-again Christian and regrets all his acts in the past.

“I got tested while I was in Zambia after one of my girlfriends advised me about her pregnancy. She had gone for pregnancy tests and during that time, she was tested for HIV and the results were shocking, she was positive. She forced me to get tested but I could not come to terms with the results. After I got tested, I came back to Zimbabwe, and I kept quiet about the issue. I never told my wife about the issue. I infected her, but I regret it. Later, I received some counseling, and it went well,”

Hanks said his fame misled him into doing things that he wasn’t proud of.

“During my peak of popularity, I had s*x with approximately 80 women, within Harare and Zambia. In 2002 it was so amazing to be on TV. I abused the fame. To make matters worse, I lacked counseling and I failed to handle it properly,
