Oh my goodness, this is happening! I'm so grateful for the overwhelming support that my connections have poured into the new community, the new podcast and now the new book! I couldn't do it without your support and encouragement.

I’ve chosen to capture and share some defining moments of encouragement as well as doubt and discouragement that helped to shape my awareness.

All of these events have created a path for acceptance, which led me to propel my life into action time and time again.

Despite or because of abuse that I’ve endured, I’ve come to understand that there was nobody coming to save me.

When the people responsible for bringing you into the world, who are also supposed to care for and nurture you, instead let you down in every possible way, you learn to fend for and rely on yourself.

I’m forever grateful for the moments when people have extended a helping hand. When they’ve told me that I was worthy, and guided me through a traumatic event into a spectacular and positive life-affirming experience.

Exposure to encouragement when you’re learning is just as important as the lessen being taught. Quite often, IT IS the lessen to be taught. I’ve had to stay open and grab onto the extended arms and hands of the people who pushed and pulled me along.

Because life is indeed a spectacular event to be experienced with highest level of self love beyond our wildest imagination.

I suppose my love of being behind a microphone began with my great grandmother, DJ Gracy on KATZ radio.

Or, as we called her at home, “Mama Gracy.”

Mama Gracy told us many stories about her work and we understood what she meant to the City of St. Louis, as their first black woman DJ. Yet, the last conversation she and I had was about my love of broadcasting.

I told her that while at Cameron University that I’d found a sort of intimacy when speaking into a microphone. It was something that I couldn’t fully describe but she knew what I meant.

I fell in love with how a microphone allowed you to be intimate, up close and personal with a mass audience. It’s completely contradictory but makes absolute sense.

Once you’ve interviewed someone about an extremely meaningful and powerful topic, there is an obligation that comes with the information shared.

And I have an inherent belief that the obligation is to spread and and help to create a better understanding of both the people we speak with and the topics we discuss.

I hope the new podcast, launched today, lives up to the broadcasting standards my great grandmother set. I get goosebumps every time I get close to a microphone and think of Mama Gracy doing the same thing!

And no, I didn’t quit my day job. In fact, my 20+ year career in healthcare helped to shape the foundation of the podcast.
