Went to the zoo this weekend... Uwe Rosenberg's New York Zoo that is and had fun building my own zoo. I ended up with 13 animal enclosures, lots of happy animals, many furbabies, 2 rollercoasters, a carousel, a huge food court on the south side of the zoo and ice cream stands, a popcorn stand and a shake shack in various other locations in the park. Need to make those zoo visitors happy!

I've been playing quite a few of these polyominoe games lately and enjoy the puzzley side of these board games. In New York Zoo you need to think about filling up the board, but do it with laying down "animal enclosures" (the polyominoes) and populating those enclosures with animeeples to gain bonus tiles that you use to fill in some hard to fill spaces.Along the way your animals may have babies which will help fill up your enclosures faster. All in all it's a balance of laying tiles and collecting animals to fill those tiles with. My 2 player games took about 30 minutes. My only negative with the game is that there are 4 groups of tiles that are suppose to be different shades of green, and two of the shades are hard to tell apart. Because of this I had to count how many spaces big they were, which was easy, but slowed the set up down. Next time I'll have these bagged separately and setup will be a breeze.

Cats! Cats! EVERYWHERE! I've been doing my best to rescue these cats all day from a small island near Squall's End. But cats can be finicky eaters and I have to entice them with fish, which doesn't grow on trees... and even if I have enough fish, they want to be carried in a basket to come aboard my boat, and I only have so many baskets, so it's slow going while I find more baskets. And if all that weren't enough PRESSURE, the armies of the evil Vesh Darkhand are sailing to the island to destroy it and the cats on it...

Is that a Board Game I'm talking about?! Yes...

The Isle of Cats
1-4 players

Card drafting
Polyominoes... that's fancy talk for laying down tiles and in this case the tiles are tetras like shapes of cats doing all sorts of things.

There are 6 rounds. Each player gets 20 fish and a basket.. Each player is dealt 7 cards at the beginning of the round. They take 2 and pass the cards to the left. Take 2 more cards from cards passed to you, pass the card's again, repeat until you have 7 cards. Pay for the cards you want in fish and then Players take turns rescuing cats and trying to fit them on their player board, which is a boat with a grid. Keep your cats within the grid lines. Watch out for rats and treasure maps...

If you enjoy puzzles, you should enjoy this. I love the feel of accomplishment as I fit those cats in my boat! Love tetris? This game will be right up your alley! Love cats? It's a no brainer!

Like card games? You'll love this one! Collect different salad ingredients and score points! Remember it's a salad though... lots of different veggies and lots of different ways to score points... for each pair tomatoes score 5, for each cabbage, onion and lettuce you have score 8, you have the fewest peppers? Score 7 and the possibilities go from there. A card collecting strategy game by AEG.

Found this guy at my front door. What did I do?... I let him in, of course!

This guy is on the cover of Hadrian's Wall, a Roll n Write game. What is a Roll n Write game? It's a game where your roll of a die or dice determines what you can do and I the case of a Roll n Write, you do that action or check off that action on a special page or paper designed for that game.

"When visiting the North of Britannia in 122 AD, the Roman Emperor Hadrian Augustus witnessed the aftermath of war between his armies and the savage Picts. In a show of Roman might, he ordered a wall to be built that would separate the Pict tribes from the rest of England. Grand in its design, the wall stretched 80 Roman miles..." In this game, you are a Roman General in charge of building a milecastle and part of the wall... and all that goes with it. Dice rolling and strategy!

Spring has sprung in South Carolina! Flowers are starting to bloom and that means Beez ( I mean bees). Have you played Beez yet? The components are amazing quality. It's also deceptively more complex than you'd think... Your little worker bee is moving from flower to flower collecting pollen for the hive... the goal is to score the most honey drips for types of pollen and how you place them in your hive. Good puzzley fun.I really enjoyed it. Light family game. Our 2 player game took 32 minutes plus set up. Next Move Games
