Beyonce's "Love Drought" video was in memory of "Igbo Landing" story. An act of mass resistance against slavery.

A group of Igbo slaves revolted, took control of their ship, rather than submit to slavery, they drowned themselves.

When they were drowning, they were singing in Igbo, a song that translates to:

"the water spirit brought us. The water spirit will take us home". (Mmụọ mmiri du anyị bia, mmụọ mmiri ga-edu anyi laa)

The ‘s first Black staring quarterback, Marlin Briscoe has died. In 1968 Briscoe started for the after the team’s starter was injured and the first backup played poorly. Briscoe started the next week and played great. None the less, Briscoe was never given a fair chance at being a QB. Back then, most NFL coaches and executives believed Blacks lacked the mental capabilities to hold down that position (that misguided notion existed for decades, and some say that is still a belief of some). He was later used as a wide receiver. Briscoe would play for 6 teams over his career, including being on two Super Bowls with the .

54 years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. On the spot where he was slain is a marker with a verse from the Old Testament that reads: “they said to one another, behold, here cometh the dreamer…let us slay him…and we shall see what becomes of his dreams.” As we remember and honor his legacy we must answer the question: what will become of his dreams?
