Highlights of VTU VC'S Speech

❇ For final year exams will be open choice i.e., out of 10 you can Choose any 5 and write them.

❇ For intermediate students they will be given with an opportunity to clear off their backlogs

❇ For intermediate students irrespective of backlogs they will be promoted and the same applies for yearback students too.

❇ For students coming from out of state they will have to undergo 14 days Home quarantine in their respective college hostels

❇ Internship can be taken online and colleges will have option to club assignment and internal training with internships

❇ Students have to reach colleges before one and half hour prior to exam

❇ If there is serious complications in reaching out your College you can opt for nearby college as your exam center.

❇ colleges will have ambulance and doctors ready in college(as per VC told in fb live)

❇ Students will be made to sit in one per desk.

VISVESVARAYA TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY ASKS STUDENTS TO WEAR HANDLOOM AT THE CONVOCATION

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has decided to part with caps and gowns for its convocation that is scheduled to be held on February 8, 2020. The tech varsity has modified its circular and is now asking students to wear “handloom dresses”. According to the modified circular, girls have to wear white saree/salwar kameez while the boys have to wear white pants and shirt.

But the fabric should only be handloom. Confirming this, VTU registrar AS Deshpande said, “Yes, we have issued a modified circular as suggested by the University Grants Commission (UGC). We are displaying dress samples on our websites for a short while so that students can follow it. This will also ensure that there aren’t any mismatches on that day.” When the registrar was asked if the students could wear gowns and caps, he categorically said, “Gowns and caps could only be worn till last year. There’s no room for gowns and caps from this year onwards
Educationists said that the VTU has finally gone the ‘desi’ way. In fact, it was DH Shankaramurthy, who in his capacity as higher education minister in 2006 had asked all universities to do away with the gowns and caps. A while ago, Karnataka State Law University had asked colleges to ‘decolonise’ the gown culture. Instead, the male students had been asked to wear only Khadi kurtas and the female students were asked to sport sarees. Instead of the gowns and caps, the students will be wearing a ‘shalya’ with the Tricolour border. It is mandatory for students to wear handloom clothing. Instead of the traditional black caps, the dignitaries will be given Mysore petas.
