Heatwave

The first summer heat wave of the year continues today into Monday. High temperatures each day will be in the upper 90s across most locations to near 105 along the Rio Grande. Meanwhile, increasing Gulf moisture spreading inland could leave the area with isolated afternoon heat index values as high as 108. Should conditions warrant, Heat Advisories may be needed later today or on Monday.

Be sure to take precautions in the heat. Drink plenty of water, wear light colored and loose fitting clothing, and take breaks in the shade or in air conditioned areas.

Until 430 PM CDT.

At 337 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Comfort, moving southeast at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include... Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, Bulverde, Cross Mountain, Walnut Grove, Leon Springs, The Dominion, Kreutzberg, Pipe Creek, Welfare, Nelson City, Kronkosky State Natural Area, Waring, Bergheim, Timberwood Park, Government Canyon State Natural Area, Lakehills, Grey Forest, San Geronimo and Cascade Caverns.

Elevated to Near Critical Fire Weather Conditions Today for San Antonio

Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions are forecast today due low humidity and occasional gusty winds. Fuel conditions remain drought stressed across much of South Central Texas. Residents are urged to exercise care with respect to any outdoor activities that could inadvertently cause wildfires.

Avoid the use of welding or grinding equipment near grass and dry brush. In addition, avoid parking vehicles in tall, dry grass that could be ignited. Do not toss cigarette butts on the ground. Report wildfires quickly to the nearest fire department or law enforcement office. This Statement is from the National Weather Service.
