The Time Is Near
Revelation 1:3 (NKJV)
“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.”

While preparing for the next youth service, something stood out to me about this verse.

John writes that those who read, hear, and apply the words of the book of Revelation will be blessed. Then he makes the profound statement: “The time is near.”

This statement reveals John’s expectation that Jesus would return in his lifetime. John, along with the other disciples, had been told that Jesus would return to earth (Acts 1:9-11). However, John wasn’t told when it would happen—only that it would happen. This expectation shaped the way he lived. John wasn’t just ready for Jesus’ return; he was actively watching for it, knowing it could happen at any moment.

If John, writing just a few decades after Jesus ascended into heaven, lived in eager anticipation of His return, how much more should we, over 2,000 years later, be watching and preparing?

Sadly, many churches and believers today have lost this sense of urgency. We’ve grown comfortable, even complacent, in our current state. Many churches rarely emphasize the return of Jesus. It seems like some avoid this topic because it challenges people to examine their relationship with Christ. To be ready for Jesus’ return means surrendering our lives to Him, forsaking sin, and turning away from worldly desires. Unfortunately, many people who call themselves Christians aren’t willing to do this.

Instead of proclaiming the truth about Jesus’ return, some preachers focus on making people feel comfortable in their sin, fearing they’ll lose members if they confront them with hard truths. But the return of Jesus isn’t just a warning—it’s our greatest hope!

As believers, we need to follow John’s example, living with an active expectation that Jesus could come back at any moment. We need to boldly proclaim the message of salvation and share this hope with others. If you pay attention to the signs of the times, it’s clear that His return is closer than ever.

Let’s take this time to examine our hearts. Are we ready for Jesus’ return? Are we sharing the good news of salvation with those around us? If not, get alone with the Lord, seek His presence, and prepare your hearts for His coming.

The time is near. Jesus is coming back soon. Are you ready?
