Rockford Metro Weather

Severe weather is looking to be a big possibility, not only in Rockford but through the Midwest and upper south this Wednesday. Both Major Models, the GFS and Euro point towards a large and widespread severe weather setup.

I'd imagine this to be a wind-driven event, with destructive winds and large hail a threat, and a possibility for tornadoes as well. It's all pretty far out, so this all can change- but keep your eyes on the weather and I'll keep you updated.

WINTER STORM FORECAST - update:
This post is addressing Monday's system, which will bring widespread impacts across the region and beyond. The first slide is my forecast. Roughly 60% of the area I expect to see anywhere from 6-9 inches of snow. Light blue indicates where I expect to see 3-6 inches of snow, Pink indicates over 9 inches of snow, while grey areas I only expect to see 1-3 inches. On slide two, we see the National Weather Service's forecast. They place yellow parts under an expected 5-8 inches of snow, while they expect dark blue areas to see anywhere from 3-7 inches of snow: 4-7 north of Chicago, and 3-6 south of Chicago. Slide three is a graphic made by NWS Chicago detailing what impacts should be seen when, and slide 4 is a graphic, also made by NWS Chicago which explains the possible impacts from a lakeshore flooding threat along the lake michigan coastline. Remember, anything above can, and likely will change, so stay tuned for updates

POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM - Forecast: We're looking at a moderate impact winter storm across Northern Illinois this Monday, with the highest totals expected in and around the Quad Cities. Slide one is my forecast after looking at several models. I have placed the majority area under 6-9 inches of snow, with extreme northern illinois under somewhat less snow, and higher amounts in southwest areas of the area. The NWS forecast on slide two has most of Illinois under 6-8 inches of snow, with somewhat less snow expected in far Northwest Illinois, and locally higher amounts in Southwest Parts of the area. Finally on slide three, we have a graphic produced by NWS Chicago explaining what impacts are expected when. Keep in mind, this system is still a few days away and with that, this is all subject to change. stay safe everybody!
