Another year, another Long Road!

As expected at Long Road, there's a lot of unpredictability. This year not only was that provided by the weather, but also the music. I often find myself surprised when leaving the festival by who has stood out and impressed me with their performances and this year was no different.

Read my review below on another amazing weekend spent at The Long Road, soaking up an atmosphere and spirit even the weather couldn't dampen!

Surprise! Our 14th Issue of Mindful Melody is out now!

As we say goodbye to 2022, we look back at some of the highlights from our trip to The Long Road Festival in August, which includes a couple of in-depth interviews with country stars The Cadillac Three and LOCASH.

Our cover star is Kel Adore, a pop prodigy with a killer voice, and who discusses a variety of topics with David, from the key lessons she's learnt as she's transitioned into adulthood, to the role that acceptance has played in her mental health journey.

In addition to this, Maxim speaks to Wyoming's country trailblazer, Ian Munsick, about the process behind his recent singles, the importance of faith to his wellbeing, and the powerful escapism that his music facilitates.

Also in this issue, David delves into the recent trend of artists cancelling shows for their mental health, and offers up a solution that could help protect the artists while still keeping label execs happy. Maxim reviews Larry Fleet's Live Sessions Vol. 1, while David celebrates Megan Thee Stallion's new website dedicated to improving fans' mental health. We're also delighted to feature a special guest post from Scarlet River PR founder, Rachel Sellick, which includes an Artist Spotlight of UK singer-songwriter, Olivia Lynn.

We want Mindful Melody to be as helpful as possible to as many people as possible, so we have made all our articles available to read for free online. But we really appreciate anyone who supports us by getting a print edition as well, which will be available to purchase in the coming weeks!

As always, we want to say a big, big thank you to our long-time sponsors, Scarlet River PR, for their continued support! It goes without saying that Mindful Melody wouldn't be what it is today without Rachel and the amazing team there. And, last but not least, we want to thank YOU for coming along for the ride and supporting us on this journey. We get so much enjoyment from putting these magazines together and we hope they bring as much joy to you as they do to us!

As part of our 'Live Music Special Edition', we took a look back at some of the festival highlights from this summer - and seeing the Eagles long overdue UK return at British Summer Time 2022 was definitely a big one!

"I often find it difficult to relax just trying to constantly plan and control everything. This is why I envy Christians. How freeing, to wholeheartedly believe and understand that whatever may occur God has a plan in place. To know that you're not alone in what you're going through and that God is on your side, putting all the pieces together to form the end result of your life."

Read David's thought-provoking reflection on the relationship between faith and mental health, and the extent to which this belief is something we choose, or whether it is something involuntary that cannot be forced -

"There’s just something so therapeutic about those moments, belting your heart out, expressing your emotions through the song and feeling a comforting sense of belonging."

2022 really has felt like the year that festivals and concerts got back into full swing - in this article, David reminisces about previous shows and the joys of having live music back once again.

"It was the kind of once-in-a-lifetime experience that you desperately hope someday becomes twice or thrice-in-a-lifetime."

I was fortunate enough to get the chance to see my all-time favourite artist, Kenny Chesney, in the beautiful setting of Lake Tahoe over in the States a couple of months ago. It was amazing getting to relive it all by writing this feature, which is part-review, part-exploration of the mental health lessons and inspiration I got from Kenny's music - and part-gushing about the whole thing.

As 2022's incredible festival season draws to a close, we wanted to pay tribute to the unique sense of release, excitement and unrestrained joy that the experience of live music can bring. Issue 13 of Mindful Melody is a special Live Edition, featuring hand-picked reviews of our festival and concert highlights this summer, including Maxim's piece on his 'All-American Kenny Chesney Adventure' in California, as well as David's features on the rapidly evolving landscape of live music, and how post-pandemic gigs just seem to hit different.

We're also delighted to have the hugely talented Country-R&B singer-songwriter, Tiera Kennedy, on the cover of our new edition. We had a great conversation about her quest to make people feel good through music, and her exciting plans for new releases. This issue also features an in-depth interview with one of the UK's most exciting Country stars, Kezia Gill, fresh off the back of brilliant live appearances at The Long Road and the West Country Music Festival.

As always, we want to give a huge thank you to our long-time sponsors, Scarlet River PR, for their amazing support of what we're striving to achieve at Mindful Melody. And of course, we want to thank all of YOU for continuing to support this project! We're really proud of this issue, and we hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed creating it!

This is something that's been transformative for my own mental health, and a tool I learnt from Mo Gawdat's interview on Steve Bartlett's inspirational Diary of a CEO podcast.

It's a simple way of literally forming new neural pathways, so that whenever a negative thought pops up, your brain is trained to counter this with a series of positive ones.
