WILDMAN’s cinematography mirrors its inspiration for tone.
Drawing from the work of DPs Christian Sprenger (Atlanta) and Thimios Bakatakis (), the cinematography focuses on wide, intricately composed shots that give a lived-in, voyeuristic feel, where a house isn’t a home.

WILDMAN is a comic surrealist take on nature, identity and reconciliation. So what IS comic surrealism and why use it to tell this story?
Surrealism allows us to use visual metaphor in a way that is funny and disarming. The world of the story may be strange but the emotions are all too real.

The beginning of my filmmaking life began with shorts I made with my friend Nic almost ten years ago. Since then, I’ve moved to film as she’s gone toward fiction writing. In those years, I saw my friend transition, and saw a side of her I hadn’t before. I’ve wanted to work with Nic again in some capacity for a long time, and to celebrate the person my friend has blossomed into. That led me to her short stories. Wildman was concise, funny, emotional, and hooked you from the beginning: just like a good short film. It also told a story about a new trans woman in a way I hadn’t seen before, and in the spirit of giving voice to to those who struggle to be heard, I wanted to use my platform to tell that story.

Amy gets a call in the middle of the night.

It's her father.

He's shot a Bigfoot in his backyard.

So begin's Nic's Anstett's WILDMAN: a comic surrealist look at the experience of a trans woman reuniting with her father over a dead mythical creature. We're looking to turn this short story into a short film!

Q***r stories by q***r authors are vital in a time when the rights of trans Americans are under attack on an almost daily basis. Comic surrealist stories allow us to use metaphors in a way that is funny, strange and disarming; creating a mirror to reflect back on reality. We're here to do both.

Come join us and check out our Seed&Spark page where we pitch you our movie in ONE minute!

Nic Anstett's short story Wildman tells the story of Amy, a trans woman who must reconnect with her estranged father when he claims to have shot a Bigfoot in his backyard. We're looking to adapt this story of reconciliation, nature, and identity into a short film!

RICHMOND, VA: After the success of People Don't Die in the Comics Anymore, Remember Tommy Productions is excited to announce their next film, Shanidar, written by award-winning playwright Chandler Hubbard and directed by Remember Tommy founder Austin Lewis. Additional producers include Chelsea Burke and Deejay Gray from TheatreLAB.

SHANIDAR is a non-traditional apocalypse story about survival, sanity, and what makes someone worth saving. At the end of days, a group of strangers find themselves thrust into a safe haven that is crumbling by the minute. These six women must contend with themselves and each other in a landscape bursting at the seams with unseen terror. The world outside their door is hungry, but the true horror might already be inside. This forged yet fractured family must question fairness, the importance (or unimportance) of remembering what came before us, and the vulnerability of trusting strangers with your life.

“The coronavirus crisis has certainly showed us the meaning of isolation, but has also forced our interconnected world to slow down, focus inward, and re-evaluate what is important to us. The unspecified “apocalypse” of Shanidar forces us to do the same, and revisit our humanity under duress. What will you keep with you at the end of the world? More importantly, who?” says Remember Tommy founder.

Playwright Chandler Hubbard says that “now is the time for stories. In the midst of the coronavirus crisis, works about the human spirit overcoming isolation, division and fear is exactly the sort of story that needs to be told."

This film will employ local technicians, actors and artists, beginning an initiative to bring film experience to theatre professionals in central Virginia, with a focus on opportunities for women in film, both in front of and behind the camera.

Production will begin January 2021 with an expected release date of late March, 2021. To support this project directly, visit our crowdfunding site at http://www.seedandspark.com/fund/shanidarfilm when crowdfunding begins October 16th.
