A TALE OF TWO CARBURETORS:
So, we have a client who has a 1972 911T. He had a VERY worn set of Weber carbs on his car. Popping, spitting, etc. Good old worn out webers. We decided to install a set of PMO carburetors, these were designed and manufactured by our friend Richard Parr and sold through his company PMO until about 2 years ago when Richard sold the company to VolksWagon legends Empi , So this was our first experience buying from them. Upon installation we immediately had a problem, the left side wouldn't idle. The culpret? On assembly someone forgot to install the idle jets. A quick call to Empi's Larry Hole and we had the jets in 2 days. Next a running issue on the right bank. We checked EVERYTHING, vacume leaks, valve adjustment, cam condition, cam timitng, etc. So another call to Empi last Tuesday. On Wednesday morning 8:00 AM, VP of Empi, Carl Shanks, head of the PMO devision Larry Hole, and Cameron, a great young man who assembles the carbs, showed up at Red Line with a replacement carburetor, we discussed diagnosis, removed the carb and realized that there was a machining mistake made on the ported vacuum / air bypass port on all three barrels. Solution, replace the carb. Then while tuning with the three reps from Empi present, we were still having an issue with the other carb, cylinder #1. So we removed that carb to find a similar issue, but only on #1. So the boys from Empi went back to the shop, Cameron built up another carb and was at Red Line at 7:00AM the next morning. We swapped the carbs, did a quick tune, went for a test drive, problem solved. It's unfortunate that this happened, but great customer service, I'm sure we helped out with getting the new production of these great carburetors sorted out. Thanks to Empi, Carl, Larry, and Cameron!
