A new proposed "Super Highway" has been approved unanimously for the Downeast area. The new route as seen in yellow (below) will have two toll booths one as you enter the highway in Bangor and the other as you exit the highway in Bar Harbor. Tolls are estimated to bring in a whopping $4.5 million dollars annually. The toll funds will be used to improve high-speed rail systems in Massachusetts. A total of 11 bridges will be built which includes 3 within Acadia National Park. The highway will have limited exits to help increase travel speeds to and from Bar Harbor. The exits will be located in Brewer & Deham - A third exit was proposed in the Ellsworth area, but was later removed from the project. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 1st, 2025
