A new nation-wide social-media trend is causing the closure of many schools as students are making fake threats regarding the use of fi****ms and explosives for a planned disaster.

Some of our local schools have also been victim to this.

The threats have been made throughout last week and appear to be continuing, but it is important to note that they have been unfounded.

Please continue to take any threat seriously and contact your local school and school police immediately if anything is heard.

However, please note that this terrible trend is currently happening and appear to be a series of pranks sparked by social media.

Torrance 09/07/24:

FYI - I just drove through a lot of traffic on Hawthorne Boulevard in between Carson Street and Sepulveda Boulevard.

The street lights are out, businesses on the west side are closed(Walmart, Chik Fil A, etc.), and half of the mall is without power according to Fox 11.

Please use an alternate route if possible.
Torrance Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway appeared to be unaffected by the power outage.
