POWER OF THE DREAM

During my freshman year, I remember gazing into the halls of my Alma Mater and uttering to myself that one day, I'd march into this very performance of my existence.
Coming from nothing, there was absolutely no chance of me getting into a degree, so I dropped the idea of even entering into a tertiary institution. Later did I know that with the help of my previous mentors, I was able to get into Angeles University Foundation through its respected Center for Culture and the Arts. Our Director offered me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to avail its Full Scholarship program provided I rendered services to the office right after classes as a student aid. This equipped me with skills that will forever change my life.
Being orphaned at the age of 12, no filial blood to turn to, not even a sibling or parent, resilience was the only reason why I'm still here. I held cleaning jobs just to fund my studies. For some time, I was a house maid and caregiver to an elderly woman. Usually, I took a pack of Presto peanut butter biscuits and a bottle of water with me as my lunch every time we had Saturday rehearsals. Walked from Balibago to AUF just so I can save up my 50-peso allowance. Life was never a rainbow-painted picture. Not for me. Eventually, a family took me into their home and treated me as one of them.
Just when I thought it was impossible to finish my degree, everything - all the written pages, came into its fruition. Here's my rendition of Celine Dion's Power of the Dream. I hope this reminds you that when filled with doubt, life has its surprises of unravelling ways for you to remember that YOU CAN. You can do this and that you got this. ✨
